Well obviously when u are getting elbowed you gonna have trouble ( remember that elbow to the adams apple? ).
Well said. Agree whole-heartedly. That McHale could allow Dirk destroyed us the last game without using DMo who has been in DNP mode forever is totally enigmatic. How is it possible that he didn't see DMo, a seven footer, who had frustrated Dirk, another seven footer, in the preseason can do a better job on Kirk, or at least try DMo out to see if he can stop Kirk? Instead, DMo was kept in the doghouse while poor JLin was trying to switch on the seven-footer multiple times without coaching adjustment. This is coaching failure to the utmost.
Dmo's game still looks like a puppy chasing butterflies. But I think he still has all star potential on athleticism alone. I wouldn't ever trade him, I'd work him in whenever the chance is there, like the Memphis game and increase his minutes ( Casspi's) as the season goes along. He's still a 3 year project to me. We need him to slow down Dirk. That would be worth his salary if he can do it.
Don't know if we watch the same Memphis game. DMo held his tough ground against the bruiser ZBO. He planted his legs out the shaft ZBO so the latter cannot easily muscle his way close to the basket. He also long enough to swap away ZBO's shots even when he got by. ZBO was frustrated as hell. He probably had a hard time to score against the youngster. It was the hardest for DMo because he was playing probably the toughest bruising PF in NBA, and even Howard had a tough time one on one with ZBO. ZBO had a easy time until DMo came in and the momentum shifted. So make any conclusion you want but the end result was Memphis bruising inside superiority was stopped and the momentum was reversed to end up a W for us.
4th qrtr 11:45 Zbo drives by Dmo for the foul 11:03 Zbo drives, harden and garcia step up to help, miss 10:54 Zbo gets around Dmo, could have had off rebound (made bucket by miller) 10:34 On miss by miller, Dmo struggles to box out Zbo (both hands on Zbo, trying to hold him back) Rebound doesn't come their way. 10:07 neither a factor 9:26 Zbo tries to face up, Lin doubles, Parsons threatens triple team, Zbo passes out. 8:51 Dmo leaves to help, Zbo catches airball, misses putback defended by Lin/parsons (this is the play Dmo goaltended and it wasn't called). 08:30 Zbo posts up, Parsons doubles, chases Zbo out, who passes back out 7:49 neither a factor 7:15 perimeter shot goes up, Dmo tries to box out, but Zbo pushes him out of position, grabs the of board, but Lin comes over the back to take it away. 6:45 Dmo rejects conley, great play ( zbo not involved) 6:14 Dmo does a good job of initially keeping Zbo off offensive board, but leaves to help, Parsons takes rebound from Zbo. 5:50 Zbo gets a pass as the trailer, parsons and Harden step up to defend. Zbo passes out, gets in the post, Dmo called for foul. 5:11 Faces up on Dmo, Lin and Parsons comes over as he makes his move, misses, but gets his own rebound and is fouled. 4:43 Posts up Dmo, Harden comes over from behind, Garcia hlps from the other side, Lin threatens to quadruple team from up top. Zbo passes out 4:03 Dmo does a good of keeping a body on Zbo's drive, but it's Garcia coming in to double that forced a bad shot by Zbo. Should i keep going? Again, Dmo did what he could, he battled hard, but he was definitely overwhelmed. He was often helped, not just by one, but by two, and sometimes three, teammates and would end up out of the play. Not sure where you get he was "long enough to swats Zbo's shots when he got by" ....i can't even remember him blocking one.
RV6 is a valued member of the community. But RV6, in the NBA is there ever really man on man defense without the help of your teammates anymore? NBA defenses are so complex in their sags, flexes and coverage that any offensive threat is quickly helped on. And did not Howard and Jones get the same help as D-Mo?
I'm hoping he quoted the wrong person lol But yeah, i agree, there is a lot of help. However, my reply was to a poster who gave Dmo the credit and make it seem like Dmo was a Zbo stopper that game. Truth is, he did what he could, but Zbo's frustration came from the second, third, and sometimes fourth guy he had to deal with after Dmo was out of the picture. His point, that the "brusing inside superiority" was stopped and allowed us to take the lead and win, is correct, but correlation doesn't imply causation. He's assuming it was stopped by Dmo because we came back while he was in there. DMo has more trouble than jones and howard defensively and I remember the team always making an effort to help him out when he is out there. I think it's safe to say McHale made it known that DMo was going to need even more help than they usually give their other post defenders. We're talking triple teams and almost quadruple teams.
You could be right. I do not have any insider information. But I do hope that D-Mo has turned a corner defensively. He seems like he is much more focused this year on where his man is and the team positional defense. We can hope can't we? Dude, best to you.
Good post. For all of those wanting DMo to get minutes, his opportunity or whatever the hell, the Rockets are in Win-Now mode. Plus, despite McHale and the injuries, we have a relatively strong record. I don't necessarily see the need to change the rotation that much just to appease DMo. Terrence gets his minutes, and he deserves them. Plain and simple. And before I get flamed again for my opinion: I think DMo has an interesting skillset, but he is an average player because he has not applied those skills when given the opportunity to do so. I think he's a good guy, but I'm not thrilled with his development, hustle, on-court decisions and fairweather support from the bench. He would benefit from watching clips of Scola in the paint. I'm hoping Asik will decide to want to be here or we can trade him for a 4 that can hit the jumper at ease. It doesn't have to be a "stretch 4" either. We have enough long range bombers. It needs to be a guy that can shoot with Luis Scola range. (Sucks...he would have been perfect next to Dwight..) And after a conversation last night, I think I'll get my wish. Finally.
Exactly. I see D-Mo as a NBA center. They take time to develop. Just look at Hibbert. He did not become a true force until the end of his third NBA season. The best of all possible circumstances is that the light bulb has turned on in D-Mo's head, Morey can trade Asik to some desperate team for a high 2014 draft pick, and Houston picks up a great young player on a rookie contract.
The Rockets aren't rally a fun team to watch this year. They never look prepared and don't seem to take every game seriously, which is why it seems they have to fight hard every nite to win.
