DMO just showed us, even in just one game, that he belongs to the rotation. He should not be glued to the bench by our coaches. If he can play that kind of bruising defense on the opponent's bigs, like he just did to ZBO, he deserves playing time to develop. He is just 22. He can and should be developed by the coaching staff. Let him learn through his mistakes. He shows his potential as a defensive presence. So the minutes he get may not necessarily a detriment to the team goal of contending this season. Besides the potential defensive intensity, DMOlition is actually pretty good on offense. He can shoot 3s and has post moves. Now that he shows he can slow down the opponent's bruising bigs, and there are not many tougher bruisers than ZBO in NBA, DMOlition should deserve some time in the rotation as a backup C or PF. Bye Asik if you don't want to stay. We have found your replacement. At least DMolition is willing to come in to battle along his teammates during the tough times. He has demonstrated the desire to compete. So McHale needs to give DMO time to develop his game. Why not give this young guy playing time to reach his potential when we so badly need a backup C and PF?
Well he certainly earned some minutes in the next game I'm sure. Hopefully he can keep up that defensive intensity. If we have someone like that off the bench who plays great defense on other bigs and has some great post moves, they that would be awesome.
One game doesn't erase everything he's done(or hasn't done) before. The Rockets absolutely SHOULD NOT worry about developing end of the bench guys when they are this close to contention.
Since last year play off series with thunder i was wondering, why not to put De-Mo on Durant? Foul trouble, ! So did Garcia and anyone gaurding Durant, at least he got the size and some skills
DMo has shown us flashes of a post game. If he can play feisty defense and give us some post scoring on a consistent basis, then he will earn the backup C/PF slot (which is completely up for grabs right now). It's up to him how he plays though. If he reverts back to making dumb turnovers and being useless on defense, then he can sit back at the end of the bench.
Right now, we don't have any healthy bigs on the bench worth anything. We're not as close to contention as some of us want to believe and I think we'll get closer if we develop some of these guys. Whether they become contributors or valuable trade pieces, it's in our interest to play someone like DMo when the only person ahead of him is Casspi.
Why? Explain please. It is not that we have extra luxury at the backup C and PF position. We actually have nobody besides Asik who is not willing to play for the Rox. Casspi is weak on defense on bigs. He is inconsistent on offense also. Garcia has been no show on offense lately. We also only played about 8 to 9 guys. The Spurs and Pacers easily played 10 guys in their rotation. Howard has been playing long minutes and TJones has some games he is off. Why can't a 7 footer who shows he can play defense and has potential on post moves get the minutes to back up these guys? Why play our regular guys to exhaustion on b2b games, or play other older bench players who are just as inconsistent offensively, and not give this young guy the playing time ne needs to develop? If DMO gets 15-20 minutes a game, he can be of high value to us during the playoff as a backup to both Howard & Jones. It is not like these two guys won't potentially get injured. So developing DMO has much better value than Casspi and Garcia.
I disagree. D-Mo has shown us that he belongs in all but a few games that he has played in. D-Mo needs to get on the floor to develop. There is no other way. Practice is not and never has been enough to gauge what a player can in games.
Motiejunas needs to go to a young crappy team that will feed him in the post and play him next to a bruiser. We don't even utilize him in the post when he is in. McHale was forced to play him last night.
Last night's game is DMOstrative evidence that DMO belongs to the rotation but there's no DMOcracy in coaching so chances are DMO will be sent to the end of the bench again and eventually becomes DEMoralized and DEMotivated. DMO is a great kid with great work ethics. Develop him or trade him. Don't let him rot.
dmo deserves maybe a few min of play for like some defensive assignments or something. a lot of times he gets destroyed out there lol. should be used situationally for now
Haha. Just thought about a name to give to a guy, like Lin with Linsanity, when he got subbed in while he was perennially benched or near the bottom of the pile in rotation, then totally unexpectedly plays amazingly beyond expectation. Now if he can keep up his defensive intensity on bigs when given the minutes, why not DMOlition? Haha. Let's just say he didn't demolish ZBO last night, but he DMOlished their momentum and ZBO's confidence that he could eat us up after he got D12 out of the way. Don't you guys agree on that as Rockets fans watching the game?
Like every player (especially big men) with rare skills, DMo deserves a chance. Many Rockets fans gave up on DMo a long time ago; some gave up on him after his few airballs; some gave up on him just looking at his gaukiness. Remember, the guy is a big, and he's only 22; he's still developing into his body. Of course he deserves a chance. We need a back up center.
The whole team was involved in this play, including guys on and off the floor. The crowd was as loud as ever. It was a beauty to watch, over and over again. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/IjxsoGxIFeI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
DMO like any young players in NBA can improve. If we gave up on Jeremy Lin for his dismal performance in the 1st half of the season last year, we won't have him playing major contribution to the team later in the year and also this season. TJ was bad too last year. Now he is a starter. Why DMO cannot get more playing time when he is just 22 and his potential to backup both C & PF position is so crucial for us in the playoff run? Any of those guys injured we will be toasted, unless you have a capable young backup ready to step up any time. How can Casspi backup Howard? He is not physically strong and not tall enough for the opponents' 7 footer center. Assuming Asik will be traded later because he won't want to play at Houston as a backup, we need another capable 7 footer backup to Howard. DMO just showed that with the right effort, he can stand his ground against oppenents' bruising bigs. For that alone, he deserves more playing time to develop some consistency. That is the coaches' job to help develop young talents.
