and if he doesn't, i'd be very worried. he's too experienced to utterly fail just because of transition.
Gasol's superelite length/frame??? I want what u r smoking. They are almost identical height/wingspan. I think Gasol weighed the same at DMO's age. Gasol barely weighs more now, and has never developed the strength that someone with his frame should. DMO has a better developed musculature right now than Gasol has in his mid-30s. Gasol is the world's tallest SF. He gets rebounds because of height and instinct. He has neither the strength or desire to be a force on the glass because of his disdain for contact(read propensity to flop when there are only about 8-10 guys in the league that have the size and strength to actually knock him down-he is a euroflopper) DMO, as skinny as he is, has just as much muscle tone and strength as Gasol already. I agree that DMO has a more natural 3 stroke. His rebounding is improving as he fills out and gains more pro-level experience, albeit overseas until now. I for one am glad Houston never pulled off the Gasol trade. That would have set the franchise back 4-5 years. He is NOT a franchise cornerstone. Why do you think Memphis was so willing to give him up? The trade helped LA and that causes most of the uproar around the league at that time, but Memphis is in a far better spot now because of that trade than they would have been had they kept him. DMO is nowhere near Gasol's level, right now. But i think saying his ceiling is Gasol-like is very reasonable. The talent is there, he runs the floor as well as any legit 7-footer short of KG already, and his low-post game can grow, especially with the best teacher in the business in Hakeem available to help him learn. DMO should be kept long-term by the Rockets, he can be part of a fantastic future for Houston.
I think Morey amnestied scola bc he a. Wants an dwill get Dwight and b. if A. Does not pan out, he has a bargain contract and believes DMo can put forth a similar stat line moving along from rookie to a year or two in, being better obv. Since they are completely different. I don't know if he'd be thrown in a pkg. for Dwight, bc morey would maybe trade his family to ORL. For Dwight but...I think Morey sees a chip here and him and Terrance will be the rookie projects for Mchale
they aren't close in their build. Gasol is super long. Howard-like. Donatas is a penguin in comparison. re Gasol's weight at Donatas' age, I'm not sure exactly, but Gasol looked like Durant back then. The same skinny tall spider type. Donatas is much bulkier right now than Gasol was. But again, it was Gasol's length and athleticism (besides his skills and IQ) that allowed him to be that great despite lack of muscle. because they are Memphis. The worst franchise in the league at the time. They had to trade him, because they screwed everything up to a degree where he asked for a trade. But they were idiots to give him up for cap space. As it turns out, idiots do get lucky too, as Marc Gasol lost like 50 pounds and turned out to be a great player out of nowhere. He was meant to be just a name in that deal.
Agreed and yeah its bit pre-mature for any of those star comparisons. But truth be told its hard not to get excited about a young 7 footer, who runs the court like he does and possesses the skills that he does.
