That's my impression. Pau was better than Donatas at this age, so it's fair to think he'd perform better in Las Vegas too. I don't remember if Pau Gasol actually took part in a summer league, probably he spent that summer representing Spain.
Can you or anyone else please give an example of this? I've been rockets fan since '01 but haven't even watched any of our summer league games up until recently. If you can name some players that did well in the SL and not as great in the season, I would appreciate it.
His success will most likely be determined by his coach. If he's taught and put in the game to play, he'll reach his ceiling. If he's benched and ignored, he's Darko.
Or if he is just all talk and totally sucks and is a complete failure as an NBA player because he doesn't have enough talent, he's Spanoulis. Amirite?
I just get the feeling that he's the kind of player that needs a lot of coaching and his ego stroked.
He can be like him or like blah blah blah. C'on it is just basketball, he want to be himself. 7 footer, awesome speed, great shooting, can shoot from almost all positions, AND, AND DOES NOT SCARED TO GO TO THE WOODS He is not a Bargnani, Donatas wants to play 1x1 in the post a lot, he knows how to do it when Andrea scares to go in the post and lives on the 3pt line.
both of these are false. Donatas is not that good a shooter yet. And Bargnani is not just a 3pt shooter.
Highly skilled 7-footer with quick feet. Able to play both ends of the floor, closing in on shooters surprisingly well. Like most have noted, he needs to get stronger as he was being pushed around by lesser opponents. Star potential and possessing the type of talent that we need to accumulate if we are to become a contender.
How many truely skilled 7footers have come into the NBA in the past decade? How valuable are those players in the NBA? Yep, he's a keeper for now. Im not going to compare him to Dirk or Pau because of their accomplishments, but I will say that getting ahold of a 7 footer that has this kind of skill is rare, and hard to come by. Not something to tread lightly about if your Morey and his name comes up in trade talks.
Just a wild guess, but I think the reason the Howard deal has not been done yet is because Orlando wants star potential in return and they want Lamb and Motie. If there was some assurance that Howard would commit to stay as a Rocket, I think those two would be long gone. Morey is a smart man, and among all his permutations, one includes the risk that Howard walks after one year despite some posters assertions that he will not. Nobody really knows, and for that risk, Morey is not including both in the proposed deal.
i'm not sure what you were referring to. but just a general observation re Dirk - he was 2 years younger and had no top level Euro experience when he entered the NBA.
And there are other players who did really well in the Summer League and went on to have success in the NBA as well. It can go both ways.
i'd expect Donatas 1st year to be a much better indication of his future than it was for Dirk. More like in Pau's case. He might not figure it out instantly in the training camp, but I think he will show plenty of flashes and good games over the first year.
