The free market at work! I heard her quotes, found them unappealing and have elected not to buy anymore of their CD's. the apology to President Bush was like putting a bandaid on a decapitation. On a similar note, I heard Kid Rock's quote and went out and bought all of his stuff.
Yeah even that one. I know. But if I only choose not to support actors and artists with whom I disagree it's not fair to the people with whom I share beliefs. If I didn't buy the KR CD's the world would have been askew. I did it for you RM. I was only thinking about you.
I'm boycotting The Chicks also. I now fast forward past all their intellectual property that I downloaded for free without even listening to it. That'll show 'em.
Has this chick made any comments similar to that in an American city? Or does she just wait to get out of the country to bash the president?
I thought we decided that celebrities' view on the war and politics was meaningless. I do not give one sh*t about what the Dixie Chicks and Sean Penn think about the subject. Nor do I give one sh*t about what Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis think about the subject. Frankly, I don't give a sh*t about what George W. Bush thinks about the subject. The reason I don't care what these people think is because they aren't the ones who will have to put their lives on the line.
1. I think she's absolute chicken-crap to wait till she gets to London to make these statements...my understanding is that their initial reaction was like, "ya'll..she said that in london..how'd ya'll hear about it back here?" nothing like slamming your president overseas. 2. of course she has a freaking right to say it...of course she does... 3. i have the same freaking right to say i think her actions were chicken-crap 3. as a consumer, i can't imagine getting upset enough at a political statement to stop buying the work of a musician i enjoy listening to. i imagine dave matthews and i would have some real issues over how to best deal with iraq...but i'd buy his next album anyway.
Dixie Chickencraps? Maybe that name would sell in Germany, especially if you made it all one word. dixiechickencrapens! Ja, clar! But really, of course she said that overseas. Been overseas lately? People are pretty ticked off at US foreign policy. If you're someone who doesn't agree with the President's course, it's probably tempting to let a crowd of thousands know about it when they feel exactly the same way that you do. Performers want to get close to their audience (well, most performers). I'm not saying it's right, or that it's not chickencrapen, but it makes sense to me.
Dont laugh at me guys, but have the Dixie Chicks been around long?.....I have never heard of these gals until recently....Their remarks in London were stupid and I have a gut feeling that this woman is feeling pretty stupid about what she did.....IDIOT
Although we are not in the majority here, there are a great many Democrats, liberals, anti-war, anti-this war, anti-death penalty, environmentalists, supporters of women's right to an abortion, supporters of gay rights, supporters of affirmative action, etc., anti-deficit, anti-irresponsible tax cuts type people here in Texas who are ALL ashamed Bush pretends to be from here. I echo the sentiment that OF COURSE they might want to let the people of a country whose populace overwhelmingly opposes this administration know that there are Americans and Texans who feel the same way. That's not okay? It's not okay to say, whether here or overseas, that you're ashamed of the president? You Clinton haters sure walk a fine line. Can someone, just anyone, remind me which freedoms we're supposed to be fighting for? Why we're supposed to be proud to be from a country which allows (and historically encourages) sincere dissent? You guys would have loved McCarthy. Morons.
What? Overwhelmingly oppose? I thought Bush was still above 50% approval and support for war? Any polls to prove either way? Are you up for a revolution Mr. Bolshevik?
Um, I assume Batman is talking about the UK, where the Chicks made the comment and where most of the populace is very opposed to unilateral war. A majority are against any war in Iraq at all, even with UN support. Also, as for opinion here, I haven't seen updated polls, but you could only muster greater than 50% support in our public with UN backing. I haven't seen recent numbers though.
