With all due respect, you obviously have little understanding of our Constitution. That great document does not grant us rights. The U.S. Constitution outlines which rights are inalienable, or granted by nature to man, and therefore immune from government force. The reaction to the Dixie Chicks stupidity is an example of a free people using their rights of expression to influence popular culture. Since government force is never in play during this minor spat, a constitutional argument does not apply.
If you're going to say something like that at least stand behind it you frickin' coward. Just file this under "Celebrities should just shut the **** up" part 527. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dixie Chicks' Maines apologizes to Bush Fri Mar 14, 8:10 PM ET NASHVILLE, Tennessee - The Dixie Chicks (news - web sites)' Natalie Maines has apologized to President George W. Bush (news - web sites) for am anti-war comment insult she made at a London concert. "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful," the singer said Friday in a statement. "I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect." Maines told the audience earlier this week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." Angry phone calls flooded a Nashville radio station on Thursday, some calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music. Two Dallas stations stopped playing the group's music because of Maines' comments. The Dixie Chicks are touring Europe where Maines said Friday they are "witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war." Maines said she is a mother and wants to see "every possible alternative exhausted" before lives are lost. The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide."
What a second guys. How many of you forgot that she was also a mother. Not just a musician, not just a celebrity, but also a mother. Bet your opinion is different now
1. Celebrities have their rights to their opinions, but like my Bon Jovi experience I do not believe they should do it at a concert people have paid to see. 2. The Chick who said it is the chubby one right (the singer)? She is the one who always says crap to get attention. I guess when the other 2 are really pretty she has to get attention in some way 3. I would not miss them if they did disappear
1. Good for her for realizing her error in judgment. People all the time say something that they don't mean, or in the very least, realize that they shouldn't say out loud (which this falls under). If that person can realize that they were in the wrong, then good for them. I guess I'm too naive to be cynical about her motivations like most people are though. Save it, I'm glad I'm this way. It's nicer thinking the best of people than the worst, trust me. 2. I think she's by far the hottest Dixie Chick. 3. I'm guessing people forget about this when the war is over. Just like people will go back to drinking French wine and calling them french fries, etc.
Good to see that this Dixie Chunk is so principled. Yeah, this is what I believe, until it starts hitting me in the wallet! Her 'apology' is a crock.
Come on RM....if radio stations didn't stop playing her stuff, do you still think she would've apologized? It's not a matter of being cynical here. It's a matter of seeing the luggage, and the airline ticket, and putting 2 and 2 together.
Maybe you're right, I don't know. I prefer to think more positive about people before I make a judgment like this.
Hmmm....gives the Fleetwood Mac song Landslide, which the Dixie Chigs re-did, all new meaning now when she sings it. "....landslide brought me down". Stick to your guns, sister, or don't fire them at all. "I said it but I didn't mean it...pardon me. By the way, buy our new CD"......
People say **** all the time that they regret. I do it on a daily basis..... Its just more media bs...... In the grand scheme of things, should one celebrities opinion really matter that much? If I said this when playing a gig in Canada would anyone give 2 sh!ts???? No. You really think she is hot RM95??? You do know she grew up in Lubbock and went to Tech.....
When I saw Bon Jovi at the Rodeo, he dedicated his song "the Distance" to our troops. I guess he just plays to his audience. Lee Greenwood is a tough act to follow. Even with that stupid outfit he wears.
Exactly, people say what celebrities think about issues, but people always make a big deal about it when they disagree with them. Would anyone be saying they didn't care what the Dixie Chicks have to say had they said they supported Bush and the probable war? I doubt it.
Yeah, nobody blasts Arnold, or Bruce, or Pat Sajack, or ummmm. . . When Dennis Miller said he supported what Bush was doing, it was all gravy and what he said was posted and talked about with no hostility whatsoever.
Exactly, I don't remember any liberal posters here criticize the Miller comments because he's a celebrity.
It's different....I'm not sure I can articulate it right now, but I think it's different. RM, I would've thought you would have responded more favorably to my Dumb and Dumber quote. Did I get it wrong?
