Why would Disney want to invest in Houston of all places??

I'm sorry...I've been here my whole life...and Houston overall stinks as a tourist city. People are not going to come to Houston for Disney World?

Go to Florida or California...they have the weather and other attractions and the ocean. We have the most uncomfortable summers and the tar filled gulf.

I like Sugar Land....nice place to raise a family. But who plans a vacation to Houston?

Besides you thought 1-10 was bad before??

again...orlando was a swamp. it was nothing. there was nothing around it and no reason to go there.

disney IS the attraction. they don't worry about what else is there...they are the thing that draws everything else there. no one goes to visit orlando. people go to visit disneyworld...and the other parks that sprung up around there after disney virtually created the entire area.

having said that...this rumor has been around forever.

I don't know, Houston seems a level hotter to me.

    Actually, it's not.

Houston's annual average temperature is 67.9 degrees compared to Orlando's 72.3. Also, in the summer months (June-August), Orlando is only marginally cooler (80.9 degrees to Houston's 81.8) but hotter by a tenth of a degree on average in August, the busiest tourist month of the year.

Lastly, our average relative humidity in the summer is exactly the same - 91%. In August, Orlando is actually higher (93% to 91%).

So, it may SEEM a level hotter, but it actually isn't.

That's interesting. The avg temp in the summer in Houston is only 81.8 degrees?

Also, Houston would be an ideal candidate for WDW due to our year round climate (unlike Astroworld - R.I.P. - , WDW would be open year round), two major airports (one a major hub, the other a minor hub), abundance of cheap real estate on the outskirts, and no local competition (not that anything else could really pose a threat). This rumor has had legs due to the number of factors that seem to all make sense for WDW to come here.

Anybody driven by Astroworld lately? It is freaking sad. The only thing left is the Texas Cyclone. I'm guessing it's a matter of days before that gets ripped up as well.

    Memories... All gone... :(

Look at it at the standpoint that Houston is one of the Major cities that is right in the middle of the US. Before you had to go all the way to the east coast or west coast to go to Disney. Now all the people that are right here in the heartland of America don't have to travel as far. You get all the business from Dallas and surrounding cities by families taking road trips instead of dropping a lot of money for airfair to get there.

This would honestly give a lot of people the option to drive to Houston and go to disney world if they couldn't afford it before. Even the airfare would be cheaper since they don't travel as far.

Basically Disney would cater to everyone at that point. And as MadMax said. Disney is the attraction. They don't want a place that already has a ton of attractions that they have to compete with. They make people want to come here to see Disney.

Guys, I did some checking around, made a few calls, and the rumor is completely TRUE. Except the rumor I heard was that it was Six Flags, not Disney, and that they were buying land in San Antonio instead of Houston! And they're gonna name it something like "Party Tejas"! WOW! Can't wait!!!!!!!!

I didn't know the avg. temperature in Houston was 67 degrees either. I would think San Diegod or LA would have that as an avg temp, not Houston.

    Think, man. Ha ha.

Fatty, I agree about driving past Astroworld. Just a big pile of rubble now. Can't wait 'til they build condos or another freaking mall there.
