reallly??? why??? why not noggin or nick???? i'm sure this is not a good morning in my house...better call to make sure the wife hasn't been attacked by an irritable 4 year old yet.
there are several channels that are considered "MTV networks"..ie, owned by Viacom. I saw the crawl when I was watching Tough Crowd last night. not only do you lose the channles owned by CDB, but you also lose MTV, MTV2, VH1, Nickelodeon, Noggin, TVLand, BET, Comedy Central and a couple of others I dont remember right now And Nick... I recently had DirectTV..and switched to cable...the prices are comparable...so dont try this "cable is more expensive" stuff...coming from someone that has had both....that simply is not true. and on top of that.....when it was raining constantly last week...I never had my cable go out like my Dish used to.
here are the press releases from both parties... and a news story about it... http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=aIifQRsm5gHg&refer=news_index
wow, i've had both and i totally disagree. my rates are significantly cheaper for the same package. you may be comparing basic cable...try comparing digital cable, which is comparable in terms of what you're getting to dish network. the prices are off by nearly $20 a month...plus, cable prices have consistently increased for years now...with dish, i'm locked in at a given price. plus..the incentive deal with dish had me paying about $13/month for the first 3 months and getting every channel they had to offer. not even a close comparison, frankly.
Also, when you're looking at options for HD, TIVO, or Sports packages, the prices for Satellite compared to Cable CANNOT BE COMPARED!!! To get all those services on cable would be quite pricey, whereas satellite offers FREE HD installation, and a FREE Tivo player with most packages. That can't be beat... but back to the point at hand.
I've had both cable and satellite as well. The problem i have with digital cable is the local channels like the networks, ESPN, and etc... are all cable quality. The picture is horrible. Then the added channels that come with the package are crystal clear. So, it really is a waste of money. Direct TV by far as been the best i've had. The only complaint is that during a heavy rain it may go out for a few minutes. I can't think of any other negative thing about it.
I have been there. I am on cable, but one day my digital stations were messed up and I did not get Noggin. The cable company did not think it was an "outage" since only part of my stations were broken. OK, you explain to my 3 kids they can still watch CSPAN, but Connie the Cow, Miffy and the rest of the Noggin gang are unavailable. Good Luck. Oh by the way, Playhouse Disney bought me a couple of days.
I have the worst cable in the world, so one could never convince me that satellite isn't as good. I don't get any digital channels. And I don't get several popular channels. And the quality is horrible, but they won't fix it. Some channels are unwatchable at times, and there are also times when channels go out for weeks at a time. I will never understand why apartment complexes make deals with shoddy cable operators in order to give their residents inferior service. But, I can watch Comedy Central today if I want to, so at least I've got that going for me.
I've had both. I originally bought DirecTV right out of college because I hated cable companies, but in my last house, I couldn't get DSL, so I had to go with roadrunner. Relatively speaking, I was fairly impressed with the way Time Warner conducted themselves, so I gave cable another try seeing as they were giving me broadband. I really don't see a whole lot of difference with the package I have (Digital Cable, HBO package, and HDTV) over DirecTV. A quick look at www.directv.com shows that it would cost $63 a month to get their basic channel lineup along with HBO and HDTV, while a quick look at www.twchouston.com shows that the same thing costs $57 a month. And of course, you don't have to buy any equipment.
I had digital cable in Arlington when it was still fairly new. I liked it just fine, but at the time, DirecTV was definitely cheaper with more to offer, so I got the DirecTV (having the NFL package was a part of that decision, too). And the non-digital channels on the cable were often very poor looking. Sometimes I could get a better picture over-the-air with a set-top antenna. I liked the DirecTV. If I hadn't moved, I would've kept it. Of course, I didn't have to buy any equipment to get the DirecTV, either, but I had to commit for a year (and they don't upgrade your equipment for nothing). I have friends who've had Dish Network, and it seems as good as DirecTV, if not better in some areas. Promotions that give away the PVR were cool (and the PVR is very cool). If I had cable from the actual local cable company, I might be higher on cable. But I have some half-@ssed (at best) cable company that offers a level of cable service that was state-of-the-art circa 1978.
o dang!! I really dont give a crap about mtv. All it is, is everything in this country that has gone wrong packaged into one channel. But if dish decides to pull out Comedy central, im going to be pissed!! I need my Chappelle show dosage!!!!!!!
dish is lucky that it isnt nfl season, or mobs would be runnin gover thier headquarters. How can dish disconect a local station!!! All the prime time tv events and local news happen on cbs, plus nfl, and so many imptant stuff happen on that station. THey are real jerks. Most of the stations the took out are stations that are HEAVILY watched! They are just screwing themselves over. I wonder how many people already discountinued their service??
DISH disconnected the stations because they don't currently have a license agreement to broadcast them. To continue to do so would technically be against the law.
It's been flashing across like 5 of my channels on my cable. (the words saying Dishnetwork is going to lose blah blah channels...) I remember when COX was threatening to drop ESPN...
