Seemed to me like McHale did a better job than RA-- overall--of going with the guys that'd hustle the most. The only thing he ever did that angered me was not playing Camby in crunch time. That made me wonder if we were, in fact, tanking.
No misdirection at all. It's a direct application of your logic. You implied that none of us were qualified to judge McHale's decision b/c of his NBA pedigree. I was simply proving to you that an NBA pedigree itself does not make anyone above criticism.
I could not agree more. I am in awe of the poetry in motion offense Pop has implemented. I feel sure that NBA teams around the league are going to be doing everything they can to imitate Pop. McHale included.
Can we all agree on one thing? Mc Hale wont even be talked about when the Rockets replace the GM if the Rockets suck for one more season with no direction? Well actually Morey's firing might lead to replacement at coach to go with the new GM. New GM might want his own guy in. Unless Morey does well this offseason. Preferably in the draft.
And we all have so very little hindsight to judge McHale. Give the guy a chance. He had no off season and only a handful of in season practices. He had his starting back court taken out by injury and managed to do no worse than Addleman last year. I may this time next year be joining you on that band wagon. I, however am willing to give a man of McHale's pedigree a full off season before I judge.
I love JVG, but he always seems to think that every coach does a great job. Otherwise, what he said about McHale would mean something to me.
Not to mention, featuring iso Patterson posting up in crunch time. I'm pretty sure if 54-year-old McHale suited up himself, he would have been better than Patterson at the low post.
JVG always sides with coaches. That's understandable given what he is. That's the only thing he will never be truly honest.
how about rick the ruler's offense with the presence of a 7'6 asian dude and Maury's assets. That offense would be sicker and they would probably be ranked 3rd In defense.
This. Completely agree. I don't know whether there is a system or not, but a system where you play Scola at 5 during 4th quarters and allow layup after layup is not right. Scola at the 5 was the most irritating thing I witnessed in the past year. I am not blaming Scola at all for that. Also, please remember that Rick the ruler never had a 5 with him for years together. Chuck Hayes is brilliant n al but he is no shot blocker. With a 5 like Sammy or Camby, I am sure Rick would have churned out a few more wins. Frankly, if the Rockets really care, they should grab SVG now. I dont know how good or bad Mchale is (all signs point to bad, but can give him 1 more year), but SVG is a very good, proven coach . And I can't wait for the annual Rockets 14th pick celebration to happen this year. The PR team would come up with a story saying that "We never expected xxxxx to drop to 14th. We are celebrating" etc followed by a Jonathan Feigan post reiterating the same thing. I don't know how long I can take this stuff.
Yes. Next time, they should stage a fake celebration, make a video of it and put it up on the Rockets site. Maybe they can take some help from the Houston Chronicle mouthpiece that they have. I don't know whom to blame for all this ****. Les ? Morey? Mchale? David Stern? Whatever man. I am glad that we didnt get the 8th seed and play the Spurs. We would have been smoked. The playoffs once again illustrate how far away this team is from competing even in the 1st round.
The coach isn't the issue. It's the pansy GM, who's too afraid to take the step backwards that results in two steps forward. He would prefer to tip toe in circles and keep the naively optimistic content. Houston, however much you like them, is severely short on talent. And until they tank and land that Derrick Rose, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, LeBron James talent... they'll forever be quantitatively analysing mediocre players and swapping them for other mediocre players. Cleveland lost their entire team for nothing 2 years ago, and they already have a more promising future than the Rockets. Irving, Thompson, Drummond... that's the kind of core you need before you start playing the Morey game. It boils down to how badly you want it.
I guess my thoughts on McHale are more in line with DD and Deckard. As much as I loved his interviews his offense and certain substitutions were a bit of a head scratcher to me. 1. From reading articles and listening to interviews with Daryl Morey after McHale was hired and leading up to the season I was under the beliefs that Chris Finch was added to the staff in order to keep the same offense that Ricked used. 2. I was under the assumption that Kelvin Sampson was hired more as a defensive coordinator. 3. I thought McHale, while being the coach was essentially going to let Finch run the same offense as Adelman while he acted more as a in game manager etc.... I was obviously wrong on all accounts. It appeared to be all of McHales offense and Defense. I don't care for his offense at all after watching Ricks for several years.
