Lets give McHale and his staff and actual offseason and training camp to work with before declaring their doom, shall we? As for "development" of the bigs, it takes time, and a lot of practice, which often has to take place in the offseason (and which they rarely had time for in the compressed schedule). This season was much more about just getting out there and compete in games with what you already had.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I never thought I'd see the day when someone said Mchale is a good coach. Can't stop laughing
The tendency predicted we were gassed towards the end.... We never had a shortened season under Adelman..... That is 82 games minus 16 games.... and we were on a 6 game losing streak at the end..... So I think with 82 games..... McHale's team could be slightly worse.
OK. I am typing these words for about the tenth time in the last month. Let us review the situation (2011-2012 season 101). 1: New coach. 2: New offense. Modified but not drastically changed defense. 3: No off season preparation. 4: Major injuries. Starting back court out for much of the season. Result - Rockets had an almost identical won/loss % as last year. Seems like a big win to me. Hill may be an OK sub. But then he could be out of the NBA soon. Not worth the time IMHO. Morris was going to be a years long project (I died when they did not take Leonard last year. That was not McHale's fault.) Scola, like every some what above average NBA starter is going to have variation in his production - so what is your point (you could build a case on this point if you were inclined to put in the effort - I thought not)? And so wake up from your nightmare. Finch is not here.
I wouldn't mind giving Kmac a few more years as long as he changes some of the stupid things he does. He needs to learn when to call timeouts and he needs to learn the importance of having a center in the game (which he should know as he is a big man). I can't say that Lowry/Kmart being unhappy is Mchale's fault. With a team with so many players capable of playing each position, players will be unhappy whoever the coach is. Lowry and Dragic both deserve the minutes. Lee and Kmart both deserve the minutes. Heck, even Bud deserves more minutes than he gets. It isn't Mchale's fault. However, not putting in a center and not calling timely timeouts is his fault. If he doesn't correct his obvious mistakes, we can't continue with him as coach.
I guess you can always find excuses. I defended the coach earlier but not any more. 1. Cannot keep peace in the locker room 2. Worse offensive concept than Adelman and not that great Defensive concept either 3. Missed the playoffs 4. Not much player development Above all, no direction of his own.... Play hard and play the best players in practice? ...... that is not a valid approach of a pro basketball coach You have a system.... and you stick to it and your players Always taking the high road..... Plus Saw what player Parsons is....... Goofy interviews..... had couple of good laughs I can only think of those points. Well I give him another season and preparation and we will go from there.
He may have cred after but it's still due to Duncan. Just like PJ has cred b/c of Jordan. Pop is the one that tanked to get Duncan and then fired the coach (Bob Hill) afterwards. As for your last question, if the asylum is led by a lunatic (Leslie), then I suppose it doesn't matter.
Thank god the wicked troll from the west is gone. All hail his lack of understanding for it is the apex of misunderstanding. We bow to his ignorance for it epitomizes the apogee of the unknowing. And yes I do have a degree in math. Bows.
OK, are you saying that the current NBA coaches main job is to suck up to the players? That is the message I am getting. If I am wrong please correct me.

The reason they gave at the opening presser was that McHale is charismatic around the NBA and with players..... Miscalculation. He is a good commentator, smart but he is an average coach and sometimes below that because he is outwitted by the better coaches of this league.
Oddly enough, all the stuff you mention can be said of Adelman during his last two years here. Except 2 where you change it to "great offense and horrible defense and horrible down the stretch." If you ever dig into threads of last season when Adelman was here, basically same thing regurgitated. And if you ever look around other NBA fansite, as I generally do after a big trade to see reactions, you'd see basically every team's fans blame their coach for anything and everything. Heck, there are even lots of Phil Jackson haters back when he was still coaching the Lakers. I think fans generally views it like this: A team is capable of 82-0(66-0) to start the season. And every loss from there is an extra reason to hate the coach. Players always get the credit for wins, i.e. "Dragic was money down the stretch..." but coaches always get the blame for losses, i.e. "WTF was McHale doing when the Rockets flames out down the stretch?"
I thought you were gone. Oh, how unthoughtful of me. You get 0 points for quoting me dude. Get a life. Find your own voice. A reasonable one I hope. Anyway I wish you the best. Knowledge and understanding and perspective are goals worth pursuing. They have applications far and beyond this thread.
It is true that coaches get a lot more blame than the players. However, Mchale deserves some, if not a lot, of the blame he gets. Any coach knows not to play Scola at center. As much as I dislike the guy, I only have 2 major problems with him, his rotations (Scola at center) and him waiting too long to call TO's. If he can fix that, he is fine with me.
To be fair, Adelman stated more than once that he was brought in to compete for a championship. We had superstars then. You could tell from his face that the seasons of mediocrity was wearing on him. The same situation in Minnesota. He cannot be happy. At least they got a superstar or someone on the verge. You knew from the start what he was bringing. You had to have two way players and good defensive players to counter the deficiencies defensively. The Coach is not the main problem, our GM not able to bring in impact players, and stuck between having to win enough games to be above 0.50 and rebuilding is the main problem. Funny that Les admittedly said that he did not want to pay for a 'renowned' coach. He admitted to experiment with an inexperienced coach. Fans gotta swallow that.
I hope you realize that by replying to my post, you are quoting me. You probably mean plagiarizing. That fact aside, I appreciate your concern. We disagree about Mchale and his coaching. I am fine with that. Good luck in your future endeavors.
