Its very easy to overestimate depth in the offseason. When the real games begin, so many factors come into play which can quickly erase the depth we perceived the team had.

I will say, this is one the deepest team we had since 08-089 (sigh).

One of the things that makes this roster feel really deep is how at the back end of the roster it is filled with solid prospects.

    Capela
    KJ McDaniels
    Dekker
    Harrell

Have to feel the Mavs are pretty jealous of those prospects.

This is one of the deepest teams we've had. The West is Deep. GSW and Spurs are reloaded. I'd put us 3rd favorites in the West, just under those two teams. Hope we make WCF. If we get knocked out in the playoffs by any team other than GSW or Spurs, that'd be a real disappointment.

Well I think he was going off the op... With Lawson, Throton, Brewer, Dmo and Capela. That's a nice lineup.

Two reasons I think it could happen. First is that with his suspension, Bev will be the starter opening night and at least a few games beyond that. Unless the team gets off to a poor start, McHale may choose to keep it that way in order to maintain continuity.

Secondly, Lawson is frankly a better fit with the 2nd unit. Those guys need a playmaker when Harden sits and with Josh Smith gone. The ball will primarily be in Harden's hands when the starters are out there. It'll be in Lawson's hands when the bench comes in.

Yeah I like that too. We're set not only for now, but also for the next few years.

It kills me man....it shows who really watches the NBA around here. Lawson shouldn't be coming off of anyone's bench

    Capela - unproven
    KJ MC Daniels- unproven
Dekker- rookie (with back injury) unproven
    Harrell - unproven..

why would anyone be jealous of these four guys on the bench?

You dont go deep into your bench in the playoffs. You play a shortened rotation of your best players.

As such, I prefer quality of 8 man playoff roster over quantity.

We have a glaring hole at the PF spot.

the 96-97 team got everybody talking, not just the rockets fans, but turned out to be not quite as expected. the 93-94 team was pretty good. This year's is probably the best we have had for a while but I will not say better than the Dream day teams after 92.

Ya know, you might be onto something there..... Maybe Morey would best be served if he could trade that unproven trash to the Kings for a more "proven" player like Rondo?

Deepest roster I can remember in my lifetime.

Deeper than 09 and that team was staked

Congratulations, you've identified a common characteristic of a "prospect"!

Brewer and Beverly would start on 15 NBA teams (as long as they're not developing inferior youth). Terrence Jones got invited to play with team USA. Capela has a few skills that are top notch. Our backup SG averaged 12 ppg in 24 minutes per game. It's not amazing production, but it is solid. I mean, the dude is 51st(/487 players that scored last year) in the league in points per minute. He's actually right next to Dwight and the 12th SG overall.

You are underrating this crew. Plain and simple.

Extremely deep roster. Maybe the second deepest in the whole league. But without Harden we are still going nowhere. (as is with most teams and their superstars).
A good bench is a huge asset for any team. It gives the opportunity to rest the starters more, and give the confidence and time to the bench to develop so they can contribute some in the playoffs. It will allow us to both play Harden less minutes and rest Dwight in back to backs. And to cope with the inevitable injuries that happen every year and still not fall in the standings.

Ginobli did it for years, it's not saying his minutes are limited. It's just a nice spark 5 min into the game. Really it's about limiting hardens minutes. I'd honestly like him at 30 during the regular season. We have another huge created now.
