I don't see the point of deciding to trade our veterans as a knee jerk reaction to yao being gone (assuming he's gone for good). We don't have a short Yao dominated time frame anymore, so we can afford to be patient. We should look to gamble on young and talented prospects or make that trade for a superstar. That could mean moving Scola and/or martin on draft night. I also think this means no one is sacred. I love our young guys, but none of them will be superstars. In the right trade, I would be willing to part with hill, patterson, budinger, brooks...any of them.
I'd trade Shane and Scola but that's it. K-Mart can play, so I keep him, but I let Brooks walk in free agency or sign/trade. Rebuild with draft picks and free agency.
Scola and Martin, yes. But I think Battier should stay. You need a couple of vets (Battier and Hayes) to mentor all the youth we're gonna be getting.
I didn't want Van Gundy to be ousted and neither want it to happen to Adelman now, but you gotta wonder what could happen now since coach is up for a new contract, the possibility of parting ways grew up a little bit today.
This won't be a popular opinion but i think we should tank, even with AB back we won't have enough to contend. Look at our list; it is full of exciting young players but none of them (IMO) have the potential to be a player you can build around. While the Rockets have been cured by injuries, they have also been blessed with franchise type players, I think the draft is the only option.
Going forward, I would think long and hard before committing long-term to anyone who plays at 7'5" or taller.
I say blow up the team. I would love to keep Luis around but he deserves to be sent to a contender. Let Adelman walk, no point in keeping him around on a team going nowhere, he is too old and too far into his career to put up with something like this. Trade for picks and do whatever you can to get the next great center to continue the tradition
I voted blow it up. We don't have a single guy on the team that can consistently command a double team or create a mismatch offensively, just a bunch of role players with no star to play off of. We also have no defensive presence in the middle. There's no "core" to build around here, and it seems clear at the moment that acquiring a superstar through trade or free agency is not happening. The only viable way to get the talent needed to compete is by getting lucky in the draft lottery. Frankly, those odds don't excite me, either. Typically, there's MAYBE one true franchise player per draft, and he's not always the first pick. Chances of getting a guy that can put a team on his back in the draft aren't too hot, but there's nothing to do but start swinging for the fences and hope to connect.
Yeah Keep Martin. Nets wanted to steal Scola from us in the off-season. I would trade him for Favors if they can't trade him to Denver for Melo. He would be a nice fit with Harris and Brook Lopez. And keep Shane too for his leadership but have him playing off the bench as a role player. Start Twill.
We will not win a championship without a superstar. This team will be competitive, but we will wallow in mediocrity without a cornerstone to build around. We should see if we can acquire a star through a trade this season, and also see how this team finishes the season out. If we don't get a star, or the team fails to win 50+ games, we should see where the ping pong balls take us in the lottery. If we don't get a high pick we should trade some of our best players (Martin, Scola, Brooks) for a top 3 draft pick depending on who is available and how much talent is in the next two drafts (only for a pretty much injury free two way star). Start the youth movement, trade the vets for draft picks and play the young guys to help them develop.
trade scola and battier they deserve to be on a contending team trade lowry keep martin and brooks ,... what should we do with brad miller? we dont have a another true center.
rebuild mode... no current star is coming to Houston so the best option is to get one through the draft.
RIGHT NOW, experiment with J-Hill & T-Will. Era-wise? Weak draft, potential lock-out, future too cloudy. Not concerned. Just let the young guys play. We have a bunch of trading assets, so I'm not too worried.
Maybe Orlando will continue to do poorly, and Dwight Howard will demand a trade... A man can dream...
There is no reason to blow it up and tank, unless you are getting a superstar like John Wall or Blake Griffin. Change the viewpoint from buyer to seller and see what you can get for your current players...... And go from there. Morey's greatest challenge is ahead of him. DD
I don't think it alienates fans if Yao retires first. Then, it cannot be the viewed as the Rockets giving up on Yao. Some fans may not see it that way, but those fans are probably the onese saying this is all the Rockets fault anyway.
