In the wake of Kobe Bryant's massive extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki said Monday that he would not be signing an extension and will become a free agent this summer. Nowitzki has previously stated his desire to remain in Dallas until 2015-2016. Last summer, he said he would be willing to take a significant pay cut on his next deal. With his and Shawn Marion's contracts coming off the books at the end of the season, the Mavericks' plan will be to re-sign Nowitzki and strengthen the supporting cast at the same time. On the season, the 35-year-old Nowitzki is averaging 20.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/11/26/nowitzki-on-an-expiring-contract-reacts-to-kobes-extension/
I think it really depends on how much Dirk wants another ring. Right now, it seems like the Mavericks have struck gold with pairing Dirk with Ellis, but we will see how long Monta stays hot. And that pairing won't win any major games anytime soon. If Dirk really wants a ring and we prove to be very close to winning it all then we have to be a likely destination for him, provided we can move players around for cap space. Take it as you want, when I found out we got Howard, I put Dirk in our current roster and simulated a couple of seasons, the Rockets were winning at least 60 games every sim.
Sign with LeBron wherever he goes. Be apart of the greatness. It's the only way to be forgiven for 2011.
