Lmao he wasn't gonna to make anywhere near what he makes now in the first place. He's trying to make it seem that he's doing it for the team. Non story.

The problem isn't his pay but his age. He'll be 35 when the season starts.

Oh from the title I thought he was reworking for this year. Is that even allowed in the NBA? I guess go for it Dirk, but who wants to come to Dallas in 2014? Lebron? Wall?

If he was going for max I bet someone would have given him ~8 mill, so well see what he gets.

It's more of a selling point to this year's free agents that they won't be cap-strapped next summer. If he goes for something near the vet min or MLE, that would be a huge bargain for a player of his caliber, even at his age.

Dirk this year was a slightly better version of Chandler Parsons. Chandler should continue to improve. Dirk will probably continue to regress. Chandler is young and fun. Dirk is old and boring ;) Dirk will take a paycut. Chandler will still only being paid peantus relative to production.

Harden + Chandler + Assets to trade for another all-star

    should be more attractive than

    Dirk + cap space

    ...but who knows....

Yet another way in which Dirk is better than Harden.

Dirk is a Legend, following in the footsteps of TD and KG with his paycut. It's a shame he had to play for Dallas instead of a likeable team.

He will be 36 at the start of the 2014 season. He will make his $22.7 million next season, and then re-sign for around $12 million I'm guessing.

I don't know if this will help recruit free agents or scare them away.

you don't know what you are talking about. Dirk took a while to get back from the injury. By the end of the season he was good, better than Parsons by a considerable amount. Dirks game is not built around athleticism whatsoever so he should be good for a few more years.

Dirk proved once he got healthy that he's still an elite offensive player (shot 50/40/90 after the ASB), but he's entering the phase of his career where like Duncan and KG he can probably only go about 30-32 minutes a night in the regular season. A pay cut's probably in order.
