Dirk calling out Cuban!? Hoped for Deron last off-season. Hoped for Dwight last off-season. Hoping for Dwight and/or CP3 this off-season. He's right.
Dirk and Cuban already won that championship... can't complain Rockets are yet to go to the WCF in the new era
I know I'm going to be bashed heavily for this... But Dirk paired up with Harden would be Ideal... Harden/Dirk/Omer would be very formidable in the west.
While I agree with Dirk's opinion, it's going to be hard to try and attract talent not named Deron, Howard, or CP3 without overpaying. They lucked out with Mayo but getting a Josh Smith or a Paul Milsapp is going to cost and cost plenty
If you are Dirk you can complain. Cuban blew up a championship team hoping to get players that went else where. If you are Dirk you are going to be upset about him wasting the last of your great years in the league.
They should've never let Chandler go...Dirk was getting old, should've kept the core for 1 or 2 more runs. Although they would've probably ended up like the Celtics and get owned by the younger teams.
The issue is not whether you have cap room, the issue is this: What elite level free agent wants to go there? Dallas views itself as an attractive location for free agents because (1) Cuban has a reputation of being a good owner (treats players well, uses his $ to sign guys for competitive teams), and (probably more important) (2) they have a superstar in Dirk Nowitzki. The primary problem now is that Dirk is now 34 years old. So, if a guy is chasing a title, do you really trust Dirk to stay at an elite level? Also, once Dirk is gone, do you really trust Cuban to land a 2nd star to join you in Dallas? Is the Dallas situation that much better than that of an expansion team with financial resources? As a related matter, given that this is a Rockets forum: If you are an elite level free agent in the year 2013 or 2014, which destinations with cap room is better for you than the Houston Rockets?
If Dwight were to leave LA no chance in hell he ever signs in Dallas over a younger, more promising team like the Rockets or the Hawks.
Dirk should be happy that he won his ring and finish out his days IMO. No sense being greedy when if he wins one now it'll be on the coattails of someone else. That ring they won was special.
Dirk's questions pretty much apply to Rockets as well. The only difference (being an attractive place for elite players) I can tell between Mavs and us is that we are a winning team young team while they are heading their way to a high lottery pick (do they have their 1st round pick the coming draft?). Yet if we were to trade a major part of our current core to land an elite or two, how persuasive would it be that we would still maintain the same competitiveness after the trade?
Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, maybe the New York Knicks....no cap room you say ?? It doesn't matter. Teams have shown they're willing to trade elite players wherever they want to go for fear of losing them in free agency.
I've been thinking dirk would be great on the rockets his contact is up at the end of next season. When some serious talent will be available. Can space the floor, post up at the elbow which is good so him and omeir can play well together. Just don't know if he can run the floor with out young guys. If people are putting together trades ideas for Rudy gay then surely something could be constructed to get him. Dallas in rebuilding mode he is disgruntled he's coming off knee problem I think out could be done.
Heat had cap space, Knicks had the threat of Melo walking to NY because they had cap space that summer, and LA... wake me up when DAL has the same prestige as the Lakers.
