I do it EVERY year. Seriously. For the 2 previous years I was able to get the new customer deal. Which is free premium package for 4 months, and then you just pay for Sunday Ticket. This year I called and said unfortunately money is tight and I need to cancel the auto-renewal for Sunday Ticket. I asked if there were any deals available that would make it easier for me to keep it this year. She instantly offered me $20 off the 6 monthly payments of Sunday Ticket, so that's $120 off there. I then said "Does that include SuperFan?" She said no, sorry it doesn't. I told her nevermind then, because Sunday Ticket isn't worth it to me if the games aren't in HD. After "Checking into things" for a few mins, she said she could give me Superfan for $50. I took it.
I had Dish for 2 years and switched to DirecTV in March. The difference is astounding. DirecTV has better customer service, and easier online interface, more reliable service, better HD quality, and I pay about 15% less and get more programming. Dish Network has gone seriously downhill. How the mighty have fallen.
I am moving into a new apartment that offers Crapcast or U-Verse, I'm going with U-verse of course... I saw that they are hooked up with DirectTV now... Does that mean I can get DirectTV? ****, I really want Sunday Ticket.
Yup.. you can get that... Verizon does a similar deal where I live... they hooked up with DirecTV to offer you television service. DISH > DirecTV.
Again, wrong. Dish is more expensive than DirecTV (especially if you want to add HD service to your existing account). Everything else about Dish Network frankly blows.
U-Verse and DirecTV are different services. You can get DirecTV, but you will be paying for both services. ATT and DirecTV allow you to bundle to save a few bucks, but thats it.
Anybody know of a way to make a Directv receiver think you were in Houston to pull in Houston sports? Or maybe even call Directv and give them a different address? I'll be in Dallas. I would be able to use a Houston address without any problem.
Again, I have heard of people doing this but I have never been able to verify that it is true. Go to dbstalk.com and sign up and ask in there forums.
I was just about to post with this. moestavern19, if you are going to get DiwreckTV and AT&P, you would probably save on the "bundled" packages, but you won't get U-verse. I would recommend to just get Interweb service through AT&P and SuperFan or Sunday Ticket with DiwreckTV if you really want to see your football games. I knew my Texans would be broadcast all the time, so I moved from DiwreckTV to U-verse.
It depends. Some channels are "spot beam" meaning they are only broadcasted in small regions. These are for the local and regional programs. If you call in to do an address change, then you get all the programming for that area. If you do an address change to houston, then you will not get any dallas locals or regional programing dedicated for them. Since Houston's local programming is spot beammed, you wouldn't be able to get them in dallas either. (as far as I can see, only LA's and NY's channels are broadcasted across the entire US). http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/directvusa101.html You can use that link to determine if the specific channels you are looking for are available across the entire US or just your area only. Look under the category "beam"... if it says "USA", that channel is broadcasted across the entire US, or if it has a city name, then its only broadcasted in that cities region only (est 200-300 mile radius). This is for non-HD content.
Thanks for the informative reply. I had been looking for this sort of information for the last few days even on dedicated satellite discussion site and was still confused by a lot of the information out there. I do have one question for you though...If the spot beam says USA on a channel like Fox sports Southwest/Houston...And I change my address to one in Houston then I shouldn't be blacked out on that channel when the Rockets are on it right? (I guess there isnt a sure fire way of knowing that but you seem knowledgeable on the matter so I thought I would ask.)
If I understand you correctly, then yes, that is correct. They way you describe it, it seems as they only authorize receivers/accounts in certain zip codes to watch that content. But be forewarned that it is not a simple and easy task to change your zip code AND to get the content working. It requires reprogramming the receiver (pretty easy) and convincing DirecTV that you do not need someone to come out and reinstall everything since you "moved". Doing this also sacrifices your locals for the time being.
It doesn't require any reprogramming on the receiver. It only requires Directv authorize your access card to receive those channels. One idea to switch an extra receiver with someone that lives in houston that may want some dallas channels on one of their TV's.
For national programs, it does not require zip code change on the receiver, but for local changes it does...otherwise the guide data doesn't populate correctly. That is a pretty good idea as far as swapping boxes, but for the cost of purchasing a new box and monthly programming fees may not make it worth it. I might suggest using a slingbox.
I'm moving to LA next week. My apartment building has DirecTV dishes already installed I guess I would just have to order a reciever and hook it up to the hookup already there. If I take the receiver I have now here in Houston and hook it up to the satellite there, will I be able to get local Houston channels?
I found spot beam transponder map. It looks like Dallas can get Houston channels but Houston may not be able to get some Dallas channels.
