Directv is great, especially the first discounted year, but at full price.....meh. I enjoyed the few years of Dtv I had, but now I currently have comcast (which I've had no issues with). The broadband services and tv bundle....too good to pass up.
If picture quality is important to you, then DirecTV is definetly the way to go. It's second only to Verizon Fios, which is only available in select areas in the Houston area.
Agreed. Directv can use 12-14mbps on their HD Steams. Fios is 16-20 Comcast is 10-12 Uverse.....lmao 6mbps (traditional copper, I'm trying to figure out if fiber to the home users get more)
129 bucks plus TTL with HBO and Starz. http://www.timewarnercable.com/en/packages/cable-internet-packages-4-6c.html free dell 2 in 1 laptop on top of it.
Where does Dish fit in here? I hate their crappy DVRs and now they might not be showing Rocket games, but I wanted to stay with them because I always thought they had the best picture quality. If that's not the case, it may be time to switch....
I don't have any specifics, but I left Dish for Directv. I liked the the DVR with Dish more, it was just more intuitive and straight forward, IMO. Directv's interface looks better and the Genie setup is a better option for whole home DVR, but I thought Dish's functionality was SLIGHTLY better. Picture quality hands down goes to Directv, cost hands down goes to Dish. Overall though I'm happy with Directv and wouldn't switch back.
Switched to DTV from Uverse recently. Picture quality is much better. Movie channels are 1080p quality.
Agree, PQ was better for me on DTV, but its not something that is really noticeable with daily viewing. I've always heard that Dish has the worst quality, but I have never personally had it. Does anyone know if there are plans to eventually have FioS available to all of the Houston area? That seems to be the consensus best option where available.
When I had them, I had Comcast for internet. I think that's probably the best of both worlds, if price isn't a factor.
Now that's interesting. My biggest gripe with Dish (besides losing signal every time it rains) is their DVRs. They seem very non-user-friendly to me. You literally have to press 11 different buttons to turn the closed-captions on. Seriously, I actually counted one time. And trying to power one back up after losing power is like trying to start an old lawn-mower. They seem to skip a lot too if you're 'behind' on a live show (like a football game, for instance). If this CSN nonsense gets straightened out for all carriers except Dish, I am switching to DTV.
In regards to UI, nothing beats the directivo that they used to have. That thing was awesome. Too bad tivo charges an arm and and a leg for their service.
Now the power up thing is the same with Directv, takes forever and a day. I like how Dish had the auto tune feature that would give me heads up anytime a particular show or program was coming on regardless of the channel. Also on Dish when 'behind' on something, if the channel button was pressed it would prompt and ask if you're sure you want to change the channel. Doesn't do that on Direct though, my little one has burned us countless times by playing with the remote and changing the channel while we were behind. That's just two little things that come to mind at the moment, nothing that's really a deal breaker.
The one infuriating thing about DirecTV is that their little "genie" DVRs come with an RF remote, which is cool and all, but what they fail to tell you is that it isn't completely universal, so good luck adjusting your TV settings if you don't keep your OEM remote for your TV around.
