[Direct TV] 26 Viacom Networks to Be Dropped @ MIDNIGHT

Nothing of value lost for me but they better drop the price.

 

Read on slickdeals that if you call customer service you get a $100 credit towards your next bill and a free upgrade to the max NFL package

 

I might give them a little flack when I call them tomorrow....moving. So I'll be getting Sunday Ticket for free again...2 years in a row. :grin:.... <3 DTV.

 

If you've been a customer for a pretty good while, this will work. And likely result in being locked into directv for another 2 years. Currently getting almost $30 per month off of my bill as a result of calling and asking for discounts from the retention department, but had to commit to an additional 2 years to do so.

 

I called DTV on a whim, figuring I'd get nowhere since you have to assume this dispute is close to a resolution and I'm still under contract until the end of the year. They transferred me to the cancellations department since I asked how much it would cost me to get out of my contract ($20/month, which is less than I anticipated). I mentioned that I could get anything I wanted via Netflix, Hulu, etc now with the exception of sports. He immediately offered me the Sunday Ticket package for free and $10 a month off my bill for the remaining months of my contract. I graciously accepted.

 

Just called. Took about an hour but I got free Sunday ticket, switched out 2 sd boxes for hd boxes, added another hd box, got the wireless connection kit to watch on iPad and use iPad as tv remote all for free and saved $20 per month for next 6 months.

I did renew my contract that was up next month but I was going to do that anyway. 2 months ago the same changes would have cost me $150 without Sunday ticket.

hm....i need to put the screws to them to see what i can get. I was going to cut the cord again. If it's cheap enough, I'll stick around.

 

My lady called DirecTV and they only offered her $5 off next month's bill.

This frankly pisses me off because I have been a loyal customer for the past 8 years and have paid full price for the Premiere package, went without locals for 7.5 of those years and had to pay extra, have paid full price for Sunday Ticket the past 7 years and had nearly the maximum amount of receivers in the which puts even more money into their pockets. Yet, my friend who has been with the all of 16 months calls and gets Sunday Ticket free and $10 off the bill for the next 6 months. I mean, I've calculated it up and I give them about $2500 a year for their service and $5 off of one bill is all you can offer me?

Anyway, I'd like to call and see if I can get a better deal but a few questions:

1. Will they not be willing to work with me since they already gave her the $5 off of next month's bill?

2. My plan is to call and see how much it would cost to cancel my service and then give them the spill above about how much and how long I have been with them.

Will this work? Any hints, tips or tricks?

 

At the automated prompts when they ask why you are calling, say "cancel service." This will get you to the retention dept, which is where the real deals happen.

 

Guy wanted to give me $10 off next bill. I had him transfer me to the retention dept. Like Lil Punisher I've been a customer for nearly ten years paying full price for NFL ticket. They ended up offering me the ticket for $50, free dvr service for a yr, an additional $20 off my bill for a yr, and Showtime free for three months.


Deal.

 

I called and got 35 bucks off my monthly bill for 6 months and Sunday Ticket for free. Score! Thanks for the heads up guys.

 

You guys aren't committing to contracts when you do this, correct?

 

The gal I spoke with said I needed to do a 1 year contract for the FREE NFL sunday ticket but I had a year left on my contract anyways so that was a wash.

Even if I wasn't under contract I would've done the 1 year agreement anyways cause I'm going to stick around to watch the NFL season and Direct TV overall is much better than Comcast or Dish imo.

 

I'm no longer with DirecTV due to line of sight issues at my new house, but I never worried about them re-upping my contract. I was so happy with their service during the 8 years I was with them that it was never a concern.

$20 off my bill for the next year

Free HD for a year

$10 off my bill for the next 3 months

50% off HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Starz! for the next 6 months

And we get to keep the original $5 credit offered

1 HD box upgrade



Needless to say, I am very satisfied.

yep, this is the model we are going to, ala carte channel/sport subscriptions via consoles like AppleTV or PS3

 

Being able to haggle prices is the best thing about DTV.

Just got our premium movie channels down to $13, versus the $24 we were paying.

 

Got $15 off for a year no contract extension. Not nearly what some of you got but I'm happy.
