Mavs gotta do whatever they can or else they will never do anything in the playoffs for a while.

Look at it this way, Dallas is spending more money than the Rockets at the center positon. And we have Yao and Deke, they have freaking Dampier and Diop. :D

I completely agree with Hollinger on this one...the article talks all about free agency this off-season, but this is the portion on Diop.

Guaranteeing Diop $33 million was crazy. This is stupid money.

It was a good signing. The guy is 25 and a force in the paint defensively. Once he left, the teams defense suffered big time as well as last yr in the 1st rd. It was solid. I guess we would wish les would worry about the luxury tax seeing that he has all this money he gets from china if u believ what some posters say.

I don't know if I would qualify Diop as a "force in the paint", but he's decent backup.

No question. After 7 years in the league he has never averaged 19 minutes a game, his best BPG year was just under 2 a game and that was 3 years ago and that average has dropped significantly. He's decent rebounder, a horrible FG shooter, even worse FT shooter, has never averaged more then 3 ppg. Not my definition of a game change monster or force.

He'd be a nice backup to Yao. He changes the game defensively, but yeah the mavs overpaid him. Not that I'm complaining...the more money they waste on him the less they have to address their deficiencies at the 2/3 positions.
