Tried Canyon Cafe, but happy hour is only in the bar area and it's tiny. Ended up at good ol' Chuy's and had the scrumptious new Charlie Brown Chicken. And two margaritas and a Texas martini. That was much better than sitting in that horrendous traffic.
probably too late now, but here are my two suggestions. you said around the galleria, so i'm guessing outside the loop. for that recommendation i say 'chacos' http://www.chachos.com/ and inside the loop, i gotta go with the aforementioned cafe adobe. http://www.restauranteur.com/cafeadobecom/
I was in SA for the hurricane and we ate at Chachos, that's where they are based. This one didn't have a full bar, but I ordered some fajita tacos and they were off the chain. I never go to the one here because i didn't like the food the first time but i might have to reevaluate that decision
I used to go to the Chacho's off Westheimer every Saturday night after 2am to sober up with some spinach mushroom quesadillas... man they were good - but i could feel my arteries hardening with each delicious bite, and finally just gave it up... but damn do I miss those things!
now that you mention it i dont remember their ritas being anything to write home about in that location, but the cyclone anayas on durham near washington and the one in midtown have pretty solid ritas and are pretty popular happy hour spots. i think the food is good, but nothing spectacular.
I don't think you can beat Los Cucos HH prices. It's on Westheimer between Fountain View and Chimney Rock. Monday and Tuesday MARGARITAS AND DRAFT BEER .99¢ ALL DAY WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Ritas 2.50 Draft Beer .99¢ If I remember correctly they give you free food at HH too (only at the bar, but it's fairly large)
That's the place I was talking about when I was referencing bad food and horrid 'ritas... but maybe its just me and my buddies who hate it and have had horrible experiences there.
