If his career ended today he should be in the HOF. I actually like the guy less and less the more I hear him talk but you can't deny the stats and if playoff performance is the sticking point then go look at his playoff stats. There are just a handful of guys to ever play the game that have stats as good as Tmac's in the playoffs. I think he gets shortchanged because he is being compared to NBA legends like MJ and now Clyde Drexler. People put these ridiculously high expectations on him and when he can't reach them people suddenly act as if he is just pretty good at basketball. It's MJ status or bust with Tmac it seems in a lot of people's minds.
i'm his biggest fan but he hasn't deserved it. yes we hold him to a high standard b/c if u look at his talent and how he plays when he's at his best, he's just as good as the best ever to play the game. so he has a few more yrs (3-4) to really say that he is truly one of the top 10-15 players to ever play the game or just one of thoes "could be" who had good stats. he has to win this year at least to the WCF though. if we advance to the WCF this yr, i have no doubt a ring is in the near future.
the only way I see T-Mac making the hall of fame is if he takes the magic he displayed in that mavericks playoff series (he had that fire that the greats have), repeat that sort of performance into another playoffs series and win. Not all of the people in the Hall of Fame won championships, but pretty much all of them had enough talent and skill on their own to win it, given the adequate supporting cast. Does T-Mac have enough to make it? Yup. Though if the Rockets, led by T-Mac, do not get far into the playoffs, most will hold that against them because the true greats always find a way to win.
