Trading Martin is not too big of a lost. Hell, its not like the guy was majorly known for playing a full 82 game season or anything, and its not like he never disrupted team chemistry before. Martin got his flaws also.

We still have Ariza's trade exception, so we don't have to send out a lot of talent/salary to get Melo. I think we would be in the driver's seat on this trade. Doesn't matter what Denver wants. Only matters what they can get. If we know that Melo is only willing to sign an extension with certain teams, we can put the best offer on the table because we will still have the most competitive team afterwards.

If New York, New Jersey, or the Clippers have to gut their team of young talent and draft picks to get Melo, why would Melo want to go there? He would be in a worse situation than he is running from in Denver. Three parties have to agree here. Both teams, as well as Melo.

JR Smith is the total opposite of everything this team stands for. I don't think Les would go for that. If Melo says he wants to sign a long term extension with Houston, then all other suitors pull back. So if we wanna offer them a Big Mac and medium fries along with Battier's contract and Jeffries contract, thats still more than they would get if they let Melo walk.

This trade actually works, throw in a couple of ny picks and we have a deal

    Brooks/Lowry
    Lee/Smith
    Anthony/Budinger
    Scola/Hill/Patterson
    Yao/Miller/Hayes

Well if that dunk is the reason we should trade for him we should just go sign James White.

It has to be Martin. The question is, who/what else?

I'm sure they're going to ask for teh NY draft. That's fine.

They have great PGs so I don't worry about that unless there's a another team involve. If they ask for a PG, it's going to be heartbreaking to part ways with either AB or Lowry. If Lee can ba a PG then we're at least covered there.

I'd rather give Bud over Battier.

umm no way.. I think everyone rather give up battier over bud.. Bud is young, exciting, CAN SHOOT, ... Battier is one of the most overrated players EVER.. nice guy, great teammate for sure but OVERRATED!

yup looks like we can agree on some things.. I love rooting for the Rockets and I will root for anyone on this team but someone like JR really makes it quite difficult. Carmelo has his issues too but he is a top talent for sure. If it means getting JR in any sort of Melo deal then I guess we would have to suck it up... But if we can keep Martin then we have our verion of our big 3 in Yao, Melo, Martin. But of course that is just a fan dreaming :) HOpefully something exciting happens though if not I'm happy with the team we have now

Actually I forgot about Durant.. I would include Durant in the top group with Wade, Lebron, Kobe.. .

Melo puts up some amazing numbers and based on stats he is not a below Dirk or CP3. He does have his character flaws though..

We need a defensive stopper that's the only reason why I like to keep him. We need a balance team.

It looks like we'll have to take on Smith to acquire Melo. I actually think it's a good thing bc we're in position to do so.

Can we trade the exception straight up for Smith? It seems like that would be something that Denver would be interested in.

This is going to end up as 3way trade. Denver is going to need talent from other team. The good thing is Morey is the expert in Ménage à trois. :)

There are conflicting reports on if the TPE would be enough to eat Smith's salary.

The Ariza TPE is about $6.3 mill. and according to Hoopshype, Smith's salary is $6.03 mill. So yeah I think so, but other websites like shamsports, have him making $6.7 mill.

I think we could use our TPE on Chris Anderson though.
