This idiot should check out the bruises and scratches on Yao after a game then call him soft.

That is the game they have played or do you think Drik have miss 236 games  use the internet for other than hate.

BTW Yao don't take a lot of perimeter shoot, he have take only 8 shoots
KG have take 98. big difference and he is not that good he is a 38FG% outside the paint.

And if you don't believe you can use 82games.com, or NBA hotspots or google and you will get the aswer.

    But hate is blind.

    lol. i'm houston rockets fan.

yao and tmac wont be here any longer in the next 2-4 years. everybody can chill. if we dont win this year we probably wont win at all. at least not with this core group. and that would be sad. 1 of my favorite squads.

but, be honest you guys are not really mad cuz the chinese kid dresses better than u?

I touched on the fact that he doesn't drive it to the hoop like he used to, and I'm sure that that fact is a large reason for him being labeled soft... but I don't think it's really fair. Soft would be if he were still capable of pounding it inside every play, like when he was 23, and instead of that he just settled for the outside shot. He can't be expected to do it every game like when he was just entering his prime. Not to mention that he had to do it that way back then just to give his often avg. team a chance at winning.

He can give the Rocket's more long term by taking shots, layups, and by setting up his team mates than he can by going off and stealing the show like T-mac circa 2004 would. He's evolved as a player, and now channels the explosiveness formally directed at driving, dunking, and scoring 30+ at playmaking, shooting, defense, being a more intelligent player, and doing what's best for his team.

Mac can still take it to the house, but the Rockets have a lot of weapons now and they play a style of basketball where he doesn't need to lay his body on the line like he used to when he was the number 1 option on mediocre teams. It's no secret that he's getting older, and though you'll likely see him revert back to his hard, driving style come playoff time... it just doesn't make sense for him to risk injury when staying rested during the long NBA season is more important than taking it to the hole like he did when he was 23.

As for complaining about injuries, that goes back to me saying he gets a bad rap for telling it like it is instead of being stoic and saying what atheletes usually say. If he's not 100% maybe you'd like him to sugarcoat it and say he just has to keep working hard or whatever, but I appreciate the fact that he's willing to be frank and say he's not feeling as good as he could. If he was absolutely needed at this point, he'd be out there doing what was best for the team-whether he was at 10% or 100%. But the truth is, it's best for him and the team that he "shut it down" for a little while... the admittance of that fact doesn't make him soft.

The main difference between the past and now, is young T-Mac had to be an aggressive, inside force to win, and the current T-Mac can keep his aggressiveness dormant, letting his teammates do their jobs; until his teammates get cold or his driving prowess is needed to take over and/or close out a game. Don't mistake his evolution as a player as him becoming a softee; he simply fills a different role than the one he filled as a younger man, his interior explosiveness utilized strategically instead of constantly.

True dat. These fools say Yao/Tmac is soft in order to boost their own manhood because these fools are soft down there. I guess not even viagra could help these fools.

If the stats say he has been dunking the ball during his career but you couldn't see it, the problem is with your eyes. Do you need a referral for a good optometrist?

By the way, trying to discredit another poster's opinion by calling him a player's fan is the definition of being weak. Looks like you are the one who is really soft here.

Well just the other day Yao got cut on his eye bad enough to have stiches and he went right back out and played, half the people on this board wouldn't have the stomach nor the work ethic to get back out there and get to work. He's not a bad guy and he works his ass off, I don't get why everyone is wanting ditch this guy?

He dunks but not enough for a 7 footer. But, we should also accept the fact that since our 7 footer has decent range, he doesn't rely on dunks for most of his points.

Yao is soft in the sense that he is suppose to be our franchise player but once you take him out of his rhythm, he plays like a scrub. He seems even softer because his vertical leap is horrible this season even for his standards (probably adjusting to his injury). You can't question his heart though.

The original article that started this thread is pretty stupid and not worth getting worked up over.

It's a style of defense that you can play on Yao and basically take him out the game. He has yet to solve it. Until he does this he will be consider soft. Great players figure it out.

Yao may be injury prone and suffering from a lack of lateral quickness, but he's far from soft. I think he suffers from media members determined to tie him to the likes of Ric Smits (who wanted nothing to do with the post).

My unranked list of softies; guys who shrink whenever contact is involved and/or can't be bothered to play hard for 48:
    Pau Gasol
    McGrady (sorry, it's my opinion)
Vince Carter (depending on the month, it's more of a career achievement with him)
Drew Gooden and his on/off switch
    Rashard Lewis
Brendan Haywood, Eric Dampier, Stromile Swift, and Andrea Bargnani (put them all together and you almost get 82 games worth of a player)
    Peja Stojakovic
    Dirk Nowitzki

KG is tough no doubt. only those yao only fans would call KG soft since they never watched others play LOL. shooting jumper as a PF could easily kill a slow C like yao ming. and compare KG's def to others pf like amare, dirk etc, you will see whats called TOUGH.

and yao is overrated and soft no doubt. i never liked yao's play since day one. you know what, why yao ming can get 20/10 numbers in this team? not because hes great, the only reason is JVG's noob offence system(every1 should pass the ball to yao ming!) and now RA also wonders if he should do the same ffs. hes our big liability on def and his offence only good when he meets the right matchup. hes not a superstar, hes a good player when against other bigman who can only do post up while no range shots. the biggest mistake for this team is we built around yao the "tofu". thats why we ****ed. this guy cant dunk the ball and hes 7'6. ofc there are tons of excuses you guys can find out. remember that its not 1st time yao did mistakes in clutch time and its also not 1st time he killed our offence.

i can understand all those chinese fans who really care about "THE BEST CENTER IN THE LEAGUE", but to be honest this team cant win **** with yao ming and yao cannot be a role player due to his background. this "BEST CENTER" never passed 1st rd and he actually played terrible in playoff games which caused the defeat. yes im a yao hater because im a rockets fan, simple.

Speaking of r****d and can not read.
    From 82games:http://www.82games.com/0708/07BOS11A.HTM
    KG: Jump shot , att 73%, eF% 47%
    Inside, att 27%, eF% 72%
If KG keeps shooting jumpers, he is soft by any standard. If he was a man man, go inside where u score at a 72% clip.

    http://www.82games.com/0708/07HOU21A.HTM
    YM: Jump shot, att 48%, eF% 38%
    Inside, att 52%, eF% 62%
    YM attempts fewer outside shots.
BTw, Yao also dunks more, 11% vs 9% for KG.

You r either a r****d or a hater 'cause u see the same stats differently.

Speaking of r****d and can not read.

    Games played (in parantheses):
    From nba.com
    Wade: 03(61) 04(77) 05(75) 06 (51) 07 (51)
I am not sure why but it looks like Wade had yet to play an 82 game season.

    Yao Ming: 02 (82) 03 (82) 04 (80) 05 (57) 06 (48) 07 (55)

You r either a r****d or a hater 'cause u see the same stats differently.

Ridiculous article based on box scores, not following the player. Author is a fantasy guy: all numbers. Probably thinks Dwight Howard is the best center in the NBA. Too bad Dwight gets his ass smacked head-to-head against Yao. But at least Dwight isn't "soft," right?

Yao: "softer" than Dwight Howard, and consistently outplaying him.

    1) Never use elbow to create space and deter the opponents from hustling him.
    2) Like to draw a charge fault although refs call block in most cases I don't when he will realize that refs expect him to defend as a big man.
    3) Hesitate after he gets the ball in low post even though double-team doesn't come. We know how quick he can be from his last shot in the game vs Portland.
    4) He allows people dunk over him. Shaq will foul hard if someone dare to do so.

Its Hilarious how some of the best players and possible HOF's are considered soft, why because they don't have menacing looks and don't give a stare?

Sure Perkins is "tough" but I'd Take Dirk,Yao and Gasol anytime. This softy label is nothing but opinion.

    1) That mean he is not dirty or mean, not that he is soft. I wish he do it but is not his personality.

    2) He rarely try to draw a charge , I've only see him do it once this year.

    3) He never Hesitate when he get the ball where he can score without putting the ball on the floor. And yes he can shoot quick like in Portland but unless you want him to keep shooting fade away jumpers other wise he need to put the ball on the floor back his man up and watch for late double team.

4)Alonzo Morning must be one of the softest player all time that guy is on every dunk highlight reel, you know who you will never find in one is Eddy Curry because he never challenge a shoot. Yao probably block and change a shot 30 times before getting dunk and I take that every time.
