I agree with everything you said, and honestly I don't really know what they are getting at with that list. I mean the guys on there are probably some of the nicest in the league and I guess because they don't openly talk about smoking weed, raping call girls, get thrown out of games, or have their name tattoo'd on there head then they are a bunch of p***y's that don't deserve to even be in the NBA. Shouldn't we be making an example of these guys and trying to promote them as what the league is trying to strive for. Not all players have to scream like an idiot after a dunk.
I think we mean by soft that it's easy to push the player around, that is, a guy like nene can dominate Yao down the strecht by out-working / out-hustling him. Right now, Yao is playing very soft. I don't see how anyone can argue against that. However, Yao didn't play this soft last year - so i do think it has to do with him coming back from an injury. He needs JVG to toughen him up again.
I think Yao is playing hurt and is either keeping it to himself or keeping it in the clubhouse. Something isn't right with him this season that much is clear. I don't think he's soft though, he always gives Shaq and Howard a hard time.
I think your making the same mistake that that a lot of people make. Yao is very tough for his size. When you look at players that are Yao's height, they are all softer than Yao: Manute Bol, Gheorghe Muresan, Shawn Bradley, Rik Smits. There are a lot of tough 7 footers, but when you add a few more inches to the human body, the body becomes weaker. Most guys that are Yao's size are extremely weak.
I think every Yao Critic who calls him "soft" should be forced to walk around at 320lbs, and wear stilts or something that simulates what being 7'6 must be like. For Yao Ming to dominate and play at an All-Star level at his height is AMAZING. There has never been a super tall Basketball player who has played at Yao's level. And why is that? Because of Yao's WORK ETHIC. You can't have a strong work ethic if you are mentally soft. However, Yao Ming at times, does display non-AGGRESSION, and an almost too polite personality. I would LOVE to see Yao Ming get angry MORE. I would love to see Yao throw an elbow, and play a little dirty just to show that he's boss. I would LOVE to see Yao Ming scream at Rick Adelman's face during a Time out. I would LOVE to see that. Hell, I would PAY to see that. Yao's personality is too non-Aggressive. But he's a warrior on the court though. He plays through pain. He gives 100% effort. He gives it all that he has on the court, and that's all you can expect from a basketball Player. I think people call him soft because he's too polite, and waaaay too Meek. But they are confusing his PERSONALITY with his actual on-Court play. On-Court play = warrior, beast. This season, you can tell he's not healthy so he's not his usual self. But last couple of seasons, Yao was a warrior, a beast. His On/off-Court PERSONALITY however, is WAAAY too meek, WAAAY too polite. He needs to get angry more.
Wow a picture define toughness. Wow what Hip Hop culture have done to us?. Usually the ppl that try so hard to look thought are the softest one. I know KG is intense and many time look fake. But his offensive game still is soft as hell. A 7 footer shooting jumper all the time and the occasional turnaround fade shoot on the post. Pretty soft to me.
If I was in Yao's shoes, and I was Yao Ming, sorry, but I would be a JERK. LOL. I would totally explode in a referee's face, and cuss him out. Fine me, whatever. I don't care. I would totally blast Rick Adelman anytime he pisses me off. And I would totally yell at my idiot guards if they didn't give me the damn ball. LOL. And I would totally smack any punk guard trying to dunk on me. elbow that biatch and watch him lying on his back, bleeding and in pain. That would give me pleasure. LOL. Sorry..that would be MY mentality. I'd be a vicious warrior. Basketball can be a war. And you HAVE to relish humiliating the opponent... Yao Ming, for my taste, is not a vicious person. He's too polite, but this doesn't make him "Soft". It just makes him "NICE".
I could be wrong, but I heard somewhere that he grew up learning that dunking was disrespectful to the opponent. I know he doesn't want to disrespect anyone, but when it comes to the basketball court all respect must be left outside the arena. Nobody out there respects him. Everyone just whacks and hacks him all day (with no call 95% of the time) and then tries to posterize him.
Yao is not soft in heart. But he is soft physically. His hands are soft, not able to secure rebounds. He does not have enough strength to fight hard down low, at least not on a consistent basis. Soft physically, yes. Soft in heart, no.
When you are missing 30 games per season, you are soft. When you can not shoot jumpers facing defense, you are soft. When you fell down to the ground 5 times per game, you are soft. When you can not make layups at 7'6", you are soft. when your dunk shooting percentage is 75%, you are soft. When you can not hold onto the ball, you are soft. When you can not get even 1 rebound in 4th quarter, your are soft. when you have to be angry to play a dominate game, you are soft. when you are nice, you don't have to miss games, miss layups, miss jumpers, miss dunks and fall down to the ground frequently. when you are soft, you miss games, miss layups, miss jumpers, miss dunks, miss rebounds and fall down by tiny pushes. Yao is nice but he is extremely soft.
The classic perception issue many ppl have. Because KG when dunk beat his chest like monkey, scream a stare to the camera and then off course ESPN highlight have to show it, them ppl think he is a great dunker. Did you know that Yao last year was 3rd on dunk until he got hurt trailing Amare and Howard. Did you know that Yao have dunk at a higher rate than KG the last 4 years. Did you know Tha KG have fail to score more than 30% of his shoot inside in the last 4 years while Yao the last 4 years have score over half of his shoot on the paint, no name the one that are call foul and never get count. What you wrote above is nonsense. You know it, everyone knows it. You're free to hate Yao Ming but most people do not share your level of hatred for him. Do you understand this? You are not normal.
Wow this one of the most unbelievable dumbest post of the year. Wow missing game make you soft. Then Shaq and Wade have to be one of the softest player of all time. Wow not shooting jumper make you tough? Then Ray Allen and Dirk are one of the toughest players in the NBA. Falling 5 time a game? when did that happen. BTW Wade, Ginobili, Battier and Hayes fall a few times every game they are soft. Can't make layups something that's not true but well then Bonzi wells and Artest are soft as tissue paper. Bla Bla Bla. Ignorance, Hate, Ignorance, Hate.......
you can not read or you are just a fool. everyone is missing games but who missed more games than Yao in 3 consecutive years? Yao can shoot jumpers in practice and free throw. but why can not he make his jumpers in real game? which player fall on the court by tripping his own foot or lost control to his legs? Layups .......I did put 7'6" there........ you have eyes or holes?
Redao, you should stay quiet for a while, and lay low. You wrote some of the dumbest things I've read in a long time. You're only exposing your EXTREME hatred for Yao Ming. Why do you hate him so much? Go think about why you hate the man so much and reconsider. Ask yourself: Why do I hate Yao Ming so much? What does my hatred for a GOOD guy say about me as a person?
