They need called out, it’s those two that will determine if this is a 27 win team or a team that can compete for the play in. The vets, Alpi, Tari, we know they are bringing it on both ends.

I’d put Alperen in the JG and Jabari category as well.

Udoka mentioned that it was Alperen’s over the head pass to Amen the other day that sort of started the snowball. Alperen is defending, but he has a ton of his own youthful issues to get over too.

Some of these guys basically starting their first year considering the non-coach and non-system we've had the last 3 seasons.

I think Alpi is further along that Jalen/Jabari. He’s also the only player on the team that can demand a double team and dictate a defensive reaction.

You can't focus on something you've never been taught to do. He has good 1v1 defensive instincts but can have lapses on losing his man on cuts and boxing out. These are fundamental things that can be taught. Toughness isn't an issue he's just thin right now. Give him some time.

It comes off like an attack on Green, Bari and Sengun; but he should be looking at VanVleet
taking 37 footers with 16 seconds left in the shot clock over and over again

Vanvleet is shooting 39.4% from 3 so maybe he should take more of those

Brobro needs to eat that chip immediately. He's the last one left on the planet that cares.

It's definitely Jalen and Jabari. Little baby deer bullshit. Alpe isn't a great defender but he's trying. Seeing DB set it straight, seeing FVV point out Jabari mid-game, knowing Ime is backing them up I'm expecting either the effort and intention ramps up to "professional basketball player" levels or the next freebie they hand over they'll find themselves in timeout.

I think Alpi is further along offensively for sure but not defensively.

I think Jabari is further along than Alpi defensively, people won't want to admit it, but Ime asks more of Jabari on defense. It's not like he's asking Sengun to guard Wemby, Paolo, or whoever might be an offensive threat and Ime took Alp out of the game at the end on defense because he wanted stops.

I just think people should be fair here, Alp makes mistakes on defense too and he's not as good of a one on one defender as Jabari is or as switchable as Jabari is.

I don't know about Green, he is getting better defensively at least.

Alp is definitely further along on offense than both. Where he beats Green at is he's just not as wild and out of control.

I think a lot of Bari's mistakes on defense are just mental and coachable things and experience things. The guy is definitely capable of giving the other teams best scorer fits he did it last year noticeably against Butler and Giannis. He'll get stronger and he'll get better because he knows its part of his role to be the defensive leader on the team but people have to be patient here. He's 20 and sometimes guarding guys that can score at will like...don't throw fits on here because an all-star player scored on him.

Jabari Smith should have higher ceiling as 3rd pick player. It makes no sense you compare him to Brooks.

First - I have zero problem with what Brooks said. He is 100% correct. Same with Udoka when he discusses the short comings of his players.

Second - why is this happening? Green and Smith played under the worst conditions in the NBA last year. The chemistry and culture was TOXIC and they learned very little positive under Silas/Stone/Porter.

Alpi is further along than Bari and Green not only offensively, but also defensively.

This is why we need this type of vet from the beginning. Someone willing to guide and call them out.
Sengun has the advantage of playing as a professional before getting drafted but he isn't safe either from being disciplined or reminded for his mental lapse.

Jalen and Jabari should absolutely be called out and disciplined. Hopefully they respond positively to it and become better players.

I still think brooks is overpaid but hopefully his role as a mentor and vet have positive impact on the youngsters. Love the ime hiring.

If this were true Ime would not trust Jabari to be assigned often to the teams best player and he would not be taking out Sengun at the end of the game last night on defensive possessions.

Yall have to realize Sengun is not perfect, he has holes on his game, he has a real inability to defend space and is not nearly as switchable as Jabari is.

Honestly, no one should argue this. Alpi isn't going out guarding forwards and being tasked to switch on shiftier players because he's simply not good at it.
