This was horrible news to wake up to this morning. Dikembe was one of the absolute all time greats, not just as a player, but even moreso as a person. "The Houston Rockets have won 20 games in a row, and all the critics can kiss my black ass!" - Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo. Rest in Peace, Legend.
I am eventually going to go back and like every single post in this thread... I wanted to share 3 of my Dikembe stories tho Freshman year... playing pick-up basketball at Yates Fieldhouse (IYKYK), Dikembe catches the ball at the top of the key takes 2 dribbles and looks at my thin 5' 10 frame and promptly dunks on me with all his might. Turns to head up court and smiles at me as if to say that was incredibly brave... and stupid. Second, I am seated in New South Dining Hall and I hear a booming voice from behind me, "Little man, pass the salt" followed by his trademark laugh. Third, party at Georgetown, Dikembe walks in and looks over the room and roars, "Who wants to sex Mutombo?" (Alonzo told the truth.) RIH Dikembe. #hoyasaxa
I’ll admit the death of Dikembe is hitting me harder than a lot of deaths. I never met him and had no connections with him as far as I know but he just seemed like such a good player and guy. Also 58 isn’t that far off for me.
Hopefully Adam Silver creates a Award named after Dikembe Mutombo Humanitarian Award. Also a Donation and Phone Donation to Dikembe Hospital.
I only saw that this morning. Bummed, I was. Loved having him as our aging if healthy backup when Yao was so often injured. The finger wag. The finger wag!
Awesome stories. Thanks for sharing. "Who wants to sex Mutombo" being legit is awesome. Belongs on a shirt
I’m still thinking about Deke His story with the Rockets was a good one , as rockets fans, we love centers and especially those from Africa who can block shots People talked about Yao and Steve Francis but I believe Deke was the friend who had more in common and helped his game @Clutch @Os Trigonum @Space Ghost ‘Looking up to Hakeem’ ‘mentoring Yao Ming’ this guy fit the pureness of the rockets It was right @Jontro @Os Trigonum
That interview with Dikembe was amazing and so real I know we care about wins and loses but when he was talking about his friendship with Yao That hit hard That team played for each other It was real
