I'm almost sold on the sd400. Someone here should be getting a commission.

Would you spring the extra bucks for the sd550. 7.1 megapx and 2.5 screen?

As an average user, I don't think the extra cash for the higher MPXs is worth it, but that is just me. My pictures are more for entertainment value (ie me and drunk friends :p) then artistic merit.

I'm looking for a similar type of camera...would love to get one under $200. This thread originally started last October. Any updates? I'm really looking for something similar to the description above (that I can carry in my pocket).

    Thanks....

Okay, I found a list of slim cameras:

Some other compact cameras worth looking at include the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T5, Canon PowerShot SD450, Casio Exilim EX-Z57 and EX-S500, Fuji FinePix Z1, Kodak EasyShare V550, Konica Minolta DiMAGE X60, Nikon Coolpix S1, Olympus C-630Z and Stylus Verve S, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8, and the Pentax Optio S5z.

Does anyone know if these are good or suck?

I've got the Canon SD500. The 550 has a larger LCD (2.5" and it came out right after I bought the SD500, dammit!). I love the camera, and it takes great pictures. When you can really blow them up and crop them, without losing anything because of the high resolution, it makes getting good images a snap.

    More than $200 bucks, though!

Icehouse, the website you may want to visit is dpreview.com. You can read both experts' reviews and user feedbacks (in the forums). You can also post your questions in any forum when you register. The folks there are very knowledgeable and also eager to help newbies.

I would prefer to stay around $200, but am willing to go over. Is that camera small enough to fit comfortably into your pocket (like could you go clubbing with it)?

I have read good reviewa about that camera and the Kodak V550.

Thanks a lot. I will check out that site.

Casio ZX60 . I have the slightly slimmer SX600. Works great, quick refresh, anti-shake. Perfect for quick snaps at party.
