That's a pretty pathetic turnout when one of the MAJOR complaints of people living in Texas is their property taxes. If people don't know, technically the State is supposed to fund schools. That is leading to a reduction in school property taxes this year for most people in Texas. To counter this, many bond votes are on polls this year locally. Then the school tax goes up to pay for the bonds and the state has no say in locally voted bond referendums. So your property tax savings goes out the window because now your precinct or district just voted to put in a bunch of school bonds. I am surprised more people against local property taxes weren't out there driving the issue and getting these mostly voted down. The problem is they are advertised like this. Vote school prop 1 if you love our children! It doesn't say, Vote school prop 1 if you want to re-raise your property taxes to cover bonds that the districts are pushing because now they have to go to the state for their money instead of sqeezing homeowners. They worked hard to get a large tax base and now they don't want to lose it so they are going to circumvent the first real property tax break you've gotten ever by creating a ton of bond issues in local votes that hardly anybody goes to. Oh...by the way...Yes...I did vote.
