It may not be selfishness, but it's very dissapointing for him to say something like that, which means the rockets still didn't realize what's wrong with them. The so called "everyone on the team involved" is a joke. Nobody was involved except Francis and himself. When the ball is in Yao's hand, he can involve everyone on the court because he can pass. Nothing is wrong for Yao to pass the ball when he is single covered. If he can find a wide open man, why should he play the stupid one on one. I hope Mobley didn't mean it when he said "we don't care". If he did, the team is hopeless.
no he said when 6'9 brian grant is the only guy guarding yao he has to turn and shoot the jumper over him instead of holding if forever looking to pass when he is clearly the best option on the play b/c of his height advantage. oh and he also said other people actually know how to score so you don't just give it to yao every single time.
Rememberr it was Cat who spoke out against picking Yao Ming in the offseason. Cat does not like someone else causing him to slip on the ladder. Yao Ming has interfered with his and Franchises Game, so why should he pass to Yao Ming, anyone might think that they are playing a team game!
It is not just what he said allegedly, but what been very obvious on the court. Only homers here continue to deny it.
I don't think there was anything wrong with what Mobes said either. I thnk it just shows that he doesn't understand how you play basketball with a center like Yao--call him a "point center" if you must. Certainly, Yao shouldn't be passing shots up when he is single covered. At the same time, no matter how he is covered, Yao should pass the ball to the open man for the easier shot. I think Cat may still see basketball as "beating your man" which would make sense given the old isolation offense. Maybe the idea of "beating the defense with the pass" instead of "beating your man" hasn't quite permeated in this team.
RIET, you pretty much laid it out. I just don't think CM will ever accept going from 2nd option to 3rd option. Raven
Good observation. Clearly the concept of team does not come naturally for Cat and SF. They are both talented players who excel in a one-on-one matchup. It is extremely difficult for Cat to appreciate the art of passing. He interpretes passing as being passive. Without coaching change, I don't think Cat will ever "get it". He will continue to prove his manhood by jacking up acrobatic circus shots and find nothing wrong with that approach.
They prefered a foward (like Odom) who handles the ball for them and play the running the game with them and a servicable center who doesn't take their shots away and do all the dirty work for them (like Cato) right?
Mobley's immatuirty personified....... the way he looks and his maneurism shows he's the jealous type. hope the rox heard this one and puts a gag order on Mobley..... Mobes is so conceited!!! Its just rightful to bash him in each and every thread........ He talks as if he's "the know-it all type".... but has hasnt shown any essence of substance,,,,,Whatever happens to the rox this season,, I STRONGLY BELIEVE they ship Mobley out because of his BAD CHEMISTRY with the team.
You know, I would've agreed with Cat a few weeks ago, but I'm seeing Yao's game change a bit since then. 1) Hakeem was a beast compared to Yao. Hakeem was far more aggressive than Yao. Nothing wrong with that statement, although it's not really endearing. 2) Yao drove me absolutely nuts earlier in the season when he would pass the ball when he had guys 8 inches shorter than him on him. He should either be able to back the defender down or just turn around and shoot a jumper over them. He's obviously got the range. I don't agree that Yao is too "pass happy" anymore. The last couple of weeks have shown he is getting more aggressive - he needs to. He was passing up easy opportunities for him to score and be a threat inside. 3) Cat says that everyone needs to be used in the offense, which is true. If Yao had said the same would there be an uproar? 4) His statement that we have many weapons that can be used is absoluetly correct. I remember all the clowns that said Mo Tay needed to be cut or traded. Give me a break. When Mo's game is on, he's the best help Yao can have on this team. Mo's jump hook is unstoppable right now and he's basically another of the weapons Cat's talking about. We do have weapons - they're just not too bright sometimes and misfire. 5) That being said, Cat doesn't always practice what he preaches. The largest weapon we have is often ignored.
TEXAS STOKE, I laughed til I almost got sick. I haven't laughed that hard for a long time. Thanks, I needed that!
You think so? Put yourself in his shoes. How annoying would it be if someone asked you 1,000,000 questions at work on why you suck and why the recent new hire is the best thing since sliced bread. Now imagine people on TV and people youve never even met saying these things about you. How annoyed would you be?
I think it's because Yao is asian. Honestly... I'm not saying Mobley is racist, but i'm havin this feeling that Cuttino wants the run and gun young ballerz who wanna play streetball with the hip hop flavor honestly though. If we had a player who was similar to Steve Francis, the street ball type or aggressive hyped up kid to be, then I dont see Mobley having a problem. I bet if Amare Stoudamire or a Kenyon Martin type player was on the team, then he would blend in easily, like Francis and Mobley how they always act up together. And Yao is taking over the media in the team so Mobley has to be jealous, or really selfish. I'm not haten on Cat, I really like his game.. but I don't like the comment. Makes it seems like the team is out of hand and parts of hate that wants to come out of Mobley that will stay inside until or if he leaves the team.
When cat says that you want to laugh because he never shows in the game that he wants or is capable of doing that. When Yao says that you know he really means it.
Any negativity coming from one player to another is not needed, especially by the Roxs. I honestly think it is hard for Cat to understand that he is the 3rd option now and not 1st or 2nd.The Raptors announcers kept asking why the Rockets didn't use Yao like they should, I critisized them at first but they were just asking the same questions that we always ask on this forum. They even said " the Rockets run a ,well what would you call this offense." And for Cats comments on Ming before the Raptors game, it reminds me of Mad-Max when Drexler came over. Max started to cry because his roll was changed then he faked a leg injury during the important playoffs. Back then the Rockets tough staff just said F..K You and sent him home and won a championship without him. Theres no place for babys on this team. You can takes Cats comments in several ways and read into it however you want, lets just hope that Cat meant no harm. Yao Franchise
It's weird. Cat is criticizing Yao for passing too much and then says we have other guys who can also score. Well, if we give the ball to the guy most willing to pass and who is also our best passer, how would we be ignoring the other players? Does that seem to be a totally stupid stream of thought?
Yeah I have to agree. I honestly think that Yao doesn't fit in with this team with Mobley and Francis. A dirty work guy like Amare would fit in way better just like he easily fit in with Marbury and the Suns despite Yao being the better player of the two.
Dr. of Dunk: - great post. For those frothing at the mouth either in one camp or another, get a grip please. Firstly how many of you saw the interview? 2ndly does anyone have an actual word for word quote of Cuttino's response? 3rdly it seems the question was a slanted insinuating question that the guards aren't passing the ball enough to Yao dressed in the form of comparing Hakeem and Yao. It's like if I asked you "When did you stop beating your wife?".
