It is a safety issue. Roads in Austin were iced over pretty crazy today. I was going 15-20mph and only drove about a mile and I was slipping and sliding all over the road. I saw two cars get pretty close to seriously wrecking, and I saw a few spin out cautiously on turns. Now imagine that with school buses full of school children. Just not worth it. We don't have the plowing and salt distribution infrastructure in place to handle massive freezing. Simple as that. In Chicago, they have giant salt silos every few miles on freeways and highways ready to go year round.
Working from home today. No way I was driving from Kingwood to downtown this morning. Days like today are the exact reason my company gave everyone laptops and remote access. Not sure why anyone went in today... I get more work done at home anyway. No one calling or stopping by to check on the status of any of my projects....
