OMG I miss Bobby and the white boy power squad soooooooo much. I still have the picture of him after the 3 point shot against the mavs on my comp.
The coolest part about Sura was that he was never a leader, never showed much grit and toughness, kind of just played his game and had fun. He gets a nice contract and some good teammates and WHAM. He has an immediate impact. Y'all call him X-Factor? More like seX-Factor
I voted that he was average. I'm not big on the whole "oh, he works really hard and dives on the ground" to compensate for an inferior skill set.
The only weakness that he had was his inability to pass the ball well down to Yao.I loved everything else about him. That's why he was called Lord Sura. His toughness reminded me of Elie.I wish we had gotten him when he was a younger player at Cleveland. He was a true Rocket. I miss him.
I just voted for option 2 (average player). Tracy McIverson more or less summarized my reason for this choice. "I voted that he was average. I'm not big on the whole "oh, he works really hard and dives on the ground" to compensate for an inferior skill set."
He was an overall above average player with limitations and shortcomings who we are looking at fondly in hindsight because absence makes the heart grow fonder. He was TERRIBLE at passing to Yao (think Luther Head). Was Jason Kidd-like as an outside shooter. And his athleticism on defense and overall quickness deteriorated over the latter course of his career due to injuries. He wasn't really a team leader either in the locker room who mentored the young guys, just a thuggish enforcer who protected every other player on the team. On the positive side he brought great intangibles as you guys have said and was a good rebounder.
then you have no idea how important it is to have a guy like that on a team. Energy and passion is infectious and it can turn a solid role, like Sura, into someone very important, that 04-05 team is a prime example. When the season started the Rockets were in a serious funk and when Sura finally joined the team after recovering from an injury the team started to gel and took off.
As I started watching the 04-05 season nothing went right until Sura got healthy, after that with an explosive T-Mac on the court nothing could stop us. Plus we didn't have problems in the clutch because we didn't have soft ass players on the court.
Bobby is an average player, but dude is tough as nail. We need that kind of player in our team to motivate others, such as....Tmac! By playing with a bad knee during that playoff run, Bobby basically ended his career, he is a warrior.
I appreciate his contribution, but I still think he is an average player. As PG, he is horrible at passing Yao the ball...
