the good thing is Yao has a full year to recup and no more national play. Maybe he will be fully rested for once
Anytime one of your best players go down and the chance of winning the championship slips away, Fans should be unhappy. Any fan wishing or hoping for a player to get injured especially one of the stars of the team is basically a ruthless moron.
I get extremely frustrated watching Yao. He doesn't assert himself late in games, and he's flat-footed and very clumsy. Also, being 7'6'' 300 lbs. you'd expect him to get deeper position in the paint, but it seems like he always catches the ball outside of the block.
No one can dislike Yao or really be unhappy with his effort, ability, and character, but I think the rockets make too many concessions for a good player, not a great one. Its also frustrating to see him rush back to play international ball which is the reason why these injuries keep happening. Just like Tracy or even moreso, you can't trust him. Even when he's playing and the team is in playoff basketball, you can't trust him to play 40 mins connsistently or to stay in the game because its too easy to take him out. The more frustrating part is the owner not making decisions based on what happens on the court, instead its based on off court.
yao's injury was expected, in my mind. his history has never given me any reason to be confident in his health. the fact that his injury hasn't healed at all was a real kick in the nads however.
The very thing that made Yao attractive to the NBA, his size, is the reason for his undoing. Technically, he is a giant, and that is a condition fraught with special physical problems. His coordination and skill was exceptional for his size; his overall quickness and/or speed wasn't. Early on Yao suffered with stamina issues which he somewhat overcame. But the injuries keep coming. After the foot injury about a year or so ago, he was noticeably slower. Before that he was hitting a peak, on a serious roll. But that was likely the high point of a disappointing career. What a wonderful person, but he simply could not overcome his physical limitations. He may come back, but I really doubt it. If I were him, I would retire.
how many Yao threads were made just in this off-season alone?? I won't be surprised if this isn't locked soon. Too many useless threads are being created every 5 mins. I mean what kind of question is that. Did Yao's injury make you sad?? Obvious answer is yes I mean who wants a key piece to the puzzle to not be able to play. SMH I guess some people just love the attention on here.
If Yao goes ahead with the surgery, they might as well do both feet. As soon as Yao gets back on the floor in November 2010, the other one will probably fracture.
after all is said and done, i wish Yao had remained a finesse player, heck even a 7' 6" jump shooter. i wish he had also committed to learning and mastering the skyhook as well as working on his promising passing skills. i also wish he had always gone for the block and not the charge. if you're going to get the defensive foul anyway, better the other guy on the floor then you. at worst he would have been a Rik Smits clone, but i'd rather have Yao playing like Smits and healthy, than playing like Shaq but always injured. of course this is all hind sight. anyway, it sucks speaking of Yao in the past tense, but his career as we know it could be over.
I HAVE THE GREATEST IDEA. HOW BOUT GIVE YAO THAT STUFF THEY GAVE TO WOLVERINE IN ORIGINS 2 MAKE YAO UNBREAKABLE OH I MEAN UNSTOPPABLE
Yao made me very happy, if not slightly overrated. His offense is very nice but I personally hate how he seems to lazily shift between offense and defense. Not to mention that his defense isn't as good as most people think. Yao is an absolutely great athlete, however in the NBA I think the thing that gets him the most attention is simply his sheer size. Which to me would be fine, however if you're 7'6" and can't find a way to get the ball near the basket and are forced to shoot from the outside of the key or at the top of the key in fadeaways and hook shots you need to seriously work on that. I mean, all the dude has to do is stick his hands up high in the air and he's open for so many passes. Perhaps it isn't his fault though, the NBA isn't used to such tall people and I'm guessing Adleman doesn't want to make those types of risky passes inside. His injury of course made me very unhappy but I know it isn't his fault. I wish him a full recovery. Much like T-Mac's recurring injuries, this type of injury is very, very hurtful to the psyche of a great athlete.
bahaha this post reminds of the scene in step brothers where derek and the step dad are talking about fish in the dinner table and the dude goes are "are those fish big?" and derek goes yes....they are...big and he puts that confused obvious face. Right before this part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZOv9NYLo2g Am I alone here?
