He was declared a bust before he was drafted. Then he proved everyone right. Yeah, Morey will take his chances. Except he had to give up a valuable asset to do it.
We already have Martin and CLEE if one or the other was moved i think we would have been in play for Mayo but that wasn't the case just my thoughts
no. coz those 1st rd picks are useless when you trade them for a superstar. no one is going to bite. those are late 1st rd picks not top 5 picks
After all the anticipation and waiting, the Rockets just traded for more average players with no big upside. We all said it isn't Morey's fault that he came into this team with no assets so he had nothing to work with. Well he did well in gathering all the assets but he didn't do anything with it but trade assets for assets at the end. Sadly the Rockets are still stuck in the same cycle. Right now, Morey is on the line because if he doesnt pull any big trades this offseason, the Rockets are stuck with the same mediocre team for 3 straight seasons and this same horid cycle will continue... The same cycle of acquiring average young players, good enough to win games but not enough to make the playoffs and ends up with the 14th pick.
Are we still holding Yao and JJ's expiring contracts. Way to go, Morey! Except we can't trade them anymore.
Morey taking his chances? No I think its more of that's all he can basically get. If Morey could get a better young Center, he would but unfortunately he just can't do it. The assets he has gather for the past 2 seasons aren't as highly value to other teams. Its just the Rockets doesn't know what direction they wanna take. They don't know if they should rebuild or win now. They are trying to rebuild but at the same time win now. In which case, it will not work because the Rockets trying to win now means they won't have a good high draft pick and they're still not good enough to make the playoffs.
Thats all he makes is small safe conservative moves, we better get either sullinger or fredette in the draft
Battier was a fan favorite and excellent defender, but on a team that was going nowhere. Him remaining on the team would simply be continuing this cycle of mediocrity that all of the nay-sayers keep talking about. If he would have gotten use more value then I'm sure he would have been traded for such. In this instance he wasn't, we had an opportunity for a pick and a 7 footer and Morey took it. The chances of Thabeet coming around and proving the bust label wrong are small, but at least its an attempt at improvement, where Battier was wasted on a team going nowhere. The same can be said of Brooks, he may be and always will be a better player than Drogic, but he had worn out his welcome here and was due a change in scenery. Even if he regains his '09-'10 form, Morey dealt him to save us from having to overpay for him in the off season. We gained more flexibility this way. You can complain all you want about us not making that big trade, but there simply wasn't one available at this time that would have been worthwhile. Hopefully it will come in the next year but Morey is simply trying to keep the team in the best possible situation to be ready for it.
Lottery protection on both picks, SMH... Thabeet is a scrub I really don't give a damn about Dragic, it's a lateral move at best, and I think we could have done a lot better than that for Brooks.
You're correct on this one. Stoudemire is making all the doubters look pretty bad so far. My god. Jcdenton with a salient post in GARM....somebody should put it on an xlsx and graph its frequency
Wouldn’t any team taking Brooks and Battier be assuming they were on rental. Battier surely will take a real paycut to play with a legit contender next year and Brooks can only be kept for a big payday (an overpaid payday for sure). So in basketball terms they are better players than what the Rockets got but not really longterm good deals for their buyers.
I dont know the story on the Memphis pick, but if the Suns dont make the playoffs we get the Magic's pick from them. Not a great pick by any means we'd still wind up with a first rounder. I definitely can see Morey moving up in the draft either way. It looks weak but never know what you can find.
They're totally rentals, and it's now obvious that the Rockets did not intend to pay either of them next year. Of course, at the beginning of the year both guys were starting for us and we replaced them with a couple of semi-worthless draft picks (one of which comes in 2013!), a bench-warmer on his way back to Nigeria, and a decent bench player. Basically, the Rockets just ditched two starters for slightly more than nothing, and it STILL doesn't make the team bad enough to do any worse they they're doing this year. So next season could very well be an exact replay of this season: Stuck in mediocre purgatory with limp-wristed Kevin Martin as our best player and no prospects to improve.
Hard to call any of these players/picks "assets" since it was widely reported by the NBA reporters today that GMs just weren't interested in these so called "assets." Our "assets" are basically draft busts that nobody wanted in the first place (Jordan Hill, Terrence Williams, Hasheem Thabeet), one-way players that are a dime a dozen (Budinger), and late first round draft picks this year in what most think is a weak draft class, and a non-lottery 1st round pick from Memphis for 2013. Whether you like Morey or not, the events of today have exposed how little the league values our players and "assets." We got a center that has done literally NOTHING in two years and doesn't even like playing basketball and a non-lottery draft pick in 2013 for Battier, and another non-lottery pick and a dime a dozen backup point guard for last year's MIP and a guy we came into the season building around. And we got nothing for the "assets" we've wasted two years getting, all while multiple superstars, stars, and legit centers were moved.
