What's the worse that could happen? It's not like he'll get real embarrassed that people know now, then he realizes that he has to get rid of unnecessary expenses and kick you out of his house cause you're a utility hog.
I know a guy that worked as a sort of guidance counselor at various colleges that always mentioned video games were right behind alcohol on the list of things that caused students to either quit school or perform poorly in school.
You're not just talking about WoW either right? You're talking about Wii, PS3, 360, PS2, etc. and all the games that these various systems supply. Right?
I think mostly he means Nintendogs. It starts out a harmless little thrill like anything, then before you know it you're face deep in and there is no escape. 3 AM you're feeding your puppy, making sure it doesn't start to despise you, By 5 AM you think you've done enough to keep it satisfied but you just can't be sure. Soon it takes over your entire life. School becomes irrelevant, Friends and Family unimportant. Next thing you know you've been walking your puppy for 39 straight hours hoping desperately that it will learn how to roll over. I've seen Nintendog addiction before and its not pretty.
I think you'd get an answer a lot quicker if you posted this on your refrigerator, rather than the BBS. He does take WoW breaks to eat, doesn't he?
I thought you were just kidding about that game title. Turns out there is actually a game called that. Learn something new everyday.
Can I just ask what is it that's so addictive about this game? Your brother sounds legitimately addicted...I've heard that the company that makes the game had a team of psychologists that made it addictive, but what, exactly, is the draw for people?
i hear from people that essentially theres always something to do. you go on quests or something, and theres always new quests i think
I try and explain the impact of WoW to friends and they just laugh (the ones that don't play PC games). They seriously don't believe me. That game has ruined lives, relationships, school, jobs, and I think has taken lives. But its so absurd that no one out of the loop takes me seriously.
I used to be like that, thankfully it was in HS and I quit that crap before college. It is a fun game to play when you are bored and have nothing else to do, but people that play it compulsively are idiots. I know this from first hand because I used to be one of those people. I also know someone in College, A senior, 23 years old, that still plays the game like 10 hours a day. It's sad because most of my conversations with him are talking about getting him to stop playing the stupid game.
Here is what Wikipedia has on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW#Controversy_and_criticism I'm not sure if they discuss what is seen as the draw for so many players or what's so addicting but there's plenty to read, with sources.
That is pretty much it. I can understand if the person is on a break or holiday or something, but when you actually have people that want you to stop, it's sad. The only way you can end it is probably by deleting their account or selling it. End that, and they will hate you forever, but there's a small chance that they might just move on with their lives.
No, I guess I should have clarified. Are you being sarcastic or something? I can't really tell what the gist of your post is. He specifically mentioned RPG type games. this guy wasn't anti-videogame or anything, but just stated matter-of-factly that the #2 thing that he saw cause students to lose control in college was addiction to video games.
