I can still do it. My only point was I would have to deal with the consequences. I guess I could have said "LIZARD!" but I wanted to show there are consequences for your actions. Nothing more, nothing less. I figured somebody would bring up the legal aspect which is why I included the black man/Jew comment next.
I agree with you in principle but I think we need to be very careful in distinguishing between legal consequences versus cultural consequences. There is a vast difference between something that is legally banned and something that is looked down upon culturally banned.
I agree, but..... There is a degrading racial slur for every race...not just whites and blacks. and out of all them..the term "******" causes more of an uproar than any of them....in the media, schools, work place. If there was a list of slurs not to say....you can bet ****** would be number 1. followed bu chink, cracker, wet back, cholo, honky, Jap, rag head, ect... Why is any worse of a word than the rest?.....and why is it the only one censored?
What does that have to do with anything? That means white people should be able to say ******? You're an idiot.
You used the history of discrimination as the reason one word is at the top of a socially unacceptable list. I countered with an argument why that logic was flawed. You retorted with a personal attack. U = troll.
I know but in this instance we're unsure of what happened beforehand. Maybe if we knew that we could pinpoint if he were referring to her attitude or her sex.
You're right, every group in the world has a derogatory word or phrase that describes them. I think due to the history of the word and black people in this country, the reason this phrase is above others. It may or may not be that big of a deal elsewhere in the world but to be honest I'm not sure.
I used the history not only of discrimination but of slavery and lynchings. And there was a word, historically, which was used to demonstrate and perpetuate the non-personhood of blacks in this country. That's why the word is taboo. If there was a similar word that had been used over decades to keep women down, that word would be similarly taboo. I was responding to a poster who asked specifically why no other racial slur was as bad as the "n" word. You quoted my response and responded yourself by saying that women had suffered longer than blacks, which is (a) a non-sequitur in the context of the conversation; (b) completely apples to oranges as the discrimination in each case was very different (women weren't hung from trees for example, nor were their churches burned down or crosses burned in their lawn, to intimidate "those filthy 'n' words" and (c) seems to posit the idea that the word "b****" has had a comparable history with women as the "n" word has with blacks. That's not just wrong, it's silly. Personally I try to avoid the word "b****" because it was pointed out to me several years ago how awful gender-based insults are (and I've posted about it several times here), but your comparison (if that's what you're doing) is typical CaseyH stupidity. As for me responding with an insult, I've never scratched the surface of the insults you've hurled at me over the last year or so, so don't pretend you're some kind of Pollyanna. You should have been banned many times already here, specifically for your comments to me, and you know it. In fact, I have no idea why I don't already have you on ignore. Oh wait, that's easily remedied. Bye.
Not exactly women have been institutionally repressed throughout human history and even in this country for longer than black men. Consider that black men got the vote in 1868. Women didn't until 1920. Violence and intimidation of women is probably much more wide spread than that of black men. If we are going to talk about taboo terms I think "c-u-n-t" is the taboo term when referring to women. "b****" is more widespread and like the "n-word" has in some cases become a term of grudging respect, such as: Anyway I agree that we shouldn't get sidetracked on excusing racism based on sexism but sadly dealing with one hasn't always meant dealing with the other and your post is given that impression even though that is not your intention and as you say you try to avoid the term "b****".
She racially instigated. We don't know what provoked the situation, but she took it upon herself to "go there". There wasn't any casual use in the video example, similar to casual black use in the media. She wasnt doing any blending in and trying to gain acceptance. She seemed to take delight in the negative use of it. Should white people be allowed to say the word? If its casual use, working toward acceptable use of the word, and bridging relationships, instead of suspiciously being patronizing about it..... if thats some kind of barrier for some reason - perhaps. Try it an see what happens. Though how do you design framework for that. Who does it? Its a lot to think about. Therefore in the meantime its just better to avoid it and wish black people wouldnt say it either. And think that anybody who uses it is stupid. In an odd way, the video might show how black people using the word over the years diluting some of its affects might be WORKING in diffusing tension. In more sensitive racially charged times and atmospheres, lets say 1960's Watts and Black Panthers era, it might not be "should" there have been a beatdown, but who pays the hospital bill for the beatdown. Use of the word is starting to become a mockery of itself. In the video, it almost seemed the black people responded to the n-word out of some obligation to address cuz its what they're "supposed" to do, rather than it being fighting words. Or maybe its the type of people in the video making it be that way..A small white girl and effeminate gay black guy, as similar in style and toughness as they are, still has the male-dont-hit-female taboo. There wasn't any "testosterone charged" militant hetero black guy and angry white male to really test it out. The "Kramer" comedy show incident, no one got beat down. But if Kramer said his stuff on the streets to a crowd of black guys...inflammatory enough to get a beat down? Perhaps.
damn it ronny. you got my hopes up. i was waiting for the trolling hoe to get decked by the gay dude....but it never happened.
I don't think people actually want to use it, they just get tired of there being an uproar when somebody does use it. I tried.
