Perhaps Bev is not that good of a defender is Trey and hayward were not stopped. Bev's contribution's to the rockets may be more of an illusion than reality. All his stats are currently D league level. Eg. FG% below 40. 3pt % 33.
Thanks for the stat. Nothing cuts throw bias and stupidity than the stat. I really dislike it when people generalize. Just because the team win doesn't mean it is the credit to a player who has a sub-par performance. The pros work with data and stat. Most fans just generalize based on bias. We need more stat like these to defuse the bias.
Lets not forget GlenRice cow ass bet on Lin.:grin: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6611159&postcount=707
Not only did he play all 82 regular season games last year, he was the ONLY Rocket to play all 82 regular season games....
Very good point. Brooks and Bev are realistically back up point guards in the NBA. Neither are a threat to blow up for 25 points on any given night. However I do support McHale's decision to start Bev. Shots are scarce on the first team, and Asik, Lin, Garcia and Casspi is a squad that destroys most opponents backups, and would be competitive with the starters of any of the bottom 10 teams in the NBA. The Rockets only have two players who can reliably create their own shots. Lin and Harden. Lin is perhaps the best drive to the rim player in the NBA this season, as shown by the SportsVU data. I believe that McHale would much prefer to have one of Lin and Harden on the court at all times. Their penetration warps defensive alignments, opening up their teammates for easy shots.
You must have forgotten how linsanity ended in NY......(injury) also missed the Knicks playoff run. Plays a full reg season for us then.......injured most of playoffs. Let's hope this is not a trend this yr.
Frankly, i was thinking during the two games losing stretch that had Lin played instead of Harden, we might win or at least not struggle as much. Harden played the worst D of the season against Jazz and Suns and cost us the games. Lin in the line up could have shored up the D a bit, giving us a fighting chance. Of course, Harden shifted gears the last two games, there's the main reason we are back on winning track.
I agree 100% with your thoughts, but I've read some posts where it seems that some people expect MJ or Dream like performances from Lin, and are disappointed when they don't get them. Expectations are a mother.
Lin is a valuable asset to this team so yes he was missed. Whenever any of the rotational players are out they are missed.
Those think Rockets do not miss Lin, or advocate trading Lin whenever we won a game without him don't seem to know how basketball is played. To win games, especially series, we need to be multi dimensional as a team. We got to have elite level - top three or at least top five defense to begin with, than on the offensive end, we need all kinds of weapons at our disposal: 3 pointers, inside game/posting up, pick and roll option...and most important of all, we need guards that are capable of relentlessly attacking the rim...in today's NBA, this mode of offense is by far the most feared of by opponents, because it inflicts much more damage by either direct scoring or inducing foul. Right now, Harden is superb at it - albeit a bit tentative these day as compared to last season probably due to yet to fully recovered foot injury. Parsons is beginning to do more, and so often we see him tearing apart defense. Lin since New York days has proven to be an effective rim attacker. With him, we have a 'trident' that put so much pressure on the opponent. The twin tower experiment early in the season failed big time partly because the middle was clogged and slashing made harder. The line up of Harden, Parsons, Lin, is like a slashing 'trident' (and add in Bev and Brooks, we have a luxury of three starting or near starting calibre point guards). It is the envy of many couches and GMs. Yes, unless you can trade Lin for an upgraded slasher (and hopefully with a skill-set that includes playmaking.) otherwise, be happy and just enjoy the team's offensive edge and success thus far/ahead. Barring major health issue, the trio can only improve. Take Lin out, the trident no more, the matrix is disturbed, and our overall strength will be depleted. Just my two cents.
I appreciate your post. I am a Lin fan. I think sometimes people give the same lable to all Lin fans, but Lin fans are people from a wide spectrum. We can't control other people's thoughts, I pray that all of his fans love him for who he is, support and enjoy his jurney as NBA player, and maybe, learn something from him to better ourselves.
Hes been shooting 35 percent in the last 5 games... He also cant stay on the floor becauae he cant guard anyone
just read this, by Adam Wexler Lin: A It was really unfortunate for Lin that he suffered a grade-1 right knee sprain against Atlanta in late November since he was enjoying a strong offensive start to the season. Lin is first in the NBA in shooting percentage on drives, shooting 65.4 percent, among players with at least 55 drives (A drive is considered any touch that starts at least 20 feet of the hoop and is dribbled within 10 feet of the hoop and excludes fast breaks). (LeBron James is second at 63.8 percent). He true shooting percentage is 64.1%, among the best in the league for guards. so how Rockets not missing Lin is beyond me.
