They got worse. Arenas is no longer agent zero -- he no longer has the athleticism that once made him special. Turkuglu retired two years ago -- he has been horrible. JRich is still very good but I don't see him do that much better than VC on the Magic. Gortat is a key reserve for them and a quality backup C that they are going to miss, especially when Dwight gets in foul trouble.
the magic's primary problem is a lack of a guy who can create off the dribble when dwight is slowed down. gilbert can no longer do that (even in games where wall wasn't playing). he's a jumpshooter now. hedo and jrich are both jumpshooters now. the problem remains the same.
looks like the magic are going to challenge the knicks for the most 3 point shots attempted per game. turkeyglue and richardson are better 3 point shooters than lewis/carter. i think they improved slightly, but when they face the heat/celtics they will to miss piertrus' defense on lebron/pierce. arenas is declined some, but its good to have insurance in case jameer nelson gets injured.....again. otis thorpe will be looking for a backup center to trade for because orton who hasnt played at all this season, and anderson wont cut it.
TOTALLY agree. I love when a team trades back for a player they already had. It's like a getting back with a girl you let go for stupid reasons. Now your back with her and happy
What da hell is this, So they get rid of Shard's Contract and got two shet ass contracts in Arenas and Turk? But playing wise, Jrich is a pure scorer and 3 point shooter that will benefit from D12, Hedo is back onto the team maybe he will start trying, Arenas is still an unknown factor at this point, but i guess he is younger than Vince Carter and has more years it seems
lol, i've watched arenas by default b/c of john wall. the guy takes a whopping 7 3s a game despite only playing 35 minutes (i think he has had 2-3 games where he has taken 10+ 3s a game). and yet he's only shooting 32% from there. and he's only gotten to the line 3 times a game this year. he's a glorified jumpshooter, and not even a good one at that. vince carter at least knew his role and was shooting a good %. his problem was sometimes he disappears in games despite a diminished role. the only good thing about the trade is jason richardson. he can play off the ball, a great 3pt shooter, and can finish around the rim. getting hedo back is pointless since hedo is not the same hedo from 2 years ago.
Really? I think Turk has gotten 10 times worse since his last appearance in Orlando. He became this lazy, unmotivated slob in Toronto after that big contract and seems be to have declined a lot in phoenix too. Say what you want about Carter, But at least he plays his ass off and actually gives a **** about the team
That's funny because that's actually the #1 criticism about Carter.. that he's lazy and doesn't give it his all.
It's pretty unfair IMO, A lot of it is based on reputation, At least last year with the Magic, he legit looked like he wanted to help his team get that ring, and he did try his best to adjust to his team. If you've seen any game game Hedo has played last year, you will see the exact definition of a lazy unmotivated fat slob
Well, I like Vince Carter. But the man admitted to not playing hard and quitting on the Raptors.. he earned that reputation. As far as whether or not the Magic are better.. I think they are. Arenas is much better at creating for others and scoring than Carter presently is. Rashard Lewis just looked awful this year. Richardson is a pure scorer that SVG will try to make play defense.. I'd imagine he'd be better than Vince, but I'm not sure. Hedo is just another playmaker on the wing for them. Their offense got a lot better through these deals.
right now, i think it is a wash, giving up Lewis is going to be bad for them defensively because of his length and the long ball is a wash because Jrich can shoot it too.. just not as well as Lewis. They now have 2 former all star point guards which is a plus. But Turk isn't close to form. Not to mention he has lost a set or too. Dwight is a defensive stopper but now he will have to cover up more mistakes because Turk's d is suspect and Arena and Richardson are used to playing on an up tempo team with average D. Orlando doesnt give up anything as Richardon, Arena and Turk can shoot the 3. They get a more dynamic offensive weap on the trade but the D will suffer.... so therefore I think it will be a wash.
Fair to say that Magic needed to make a move - they didn't have a dynamic playmaker. It's debatable, but I'm with the camp that does not expect Arenas to get back to being an elite player. Further, I never saw Arenas make others around him better. The Wizards were a sad "your turn, my turn" iso offense with him in charge. I think the Magic are really going to regret losing Lewis and Gortat - NBA 101: don't trade big for small Gortat is one of the very best back up centers in the league, and it was just last spring that Howard couldn't stay on the floor in the playoffs Lewis makes it very tough for teams to double Howard with both bigs since he can punish them from deep.
Orlando gets two dumbs up!!!.......Thats what you called getting it done!! Morey could learn a bit from this......
and what the HELL is phx thinking!!They got old real quick..... Nash Carter Hill all over 30.....wtf!! They may not be done dealing......although I think Gortat is just a little above average he is currently our best grab at a center.Cross your fingers and hope Morey can still get his hands on gortat , much less lopez (lopez should come alot cheaper).....IT IS WRITTEN
they know they are going nowhere this year. but this deal is great for them because: 1) they get a center finally 2) carter's contract will expire they're in rebuilding mode
i totally agree with you. Lewis is what keep opposing D true to their man. You will see Lewis's averages go up in Washington, I think he will be a great match for wall and Blatche. With J howard coming back, i think they have a chance to be the 8th seed in the east and will shock some people. Especially with this trade they get a more consistent scoring option.
