Morey is going to spend the next year defeating COVID before returning to the sports business.

Chappelle walked away from $50 millions from Comedy Central. Stranger things have happened.

Money isn't everything. I take morey's word as face value, unless down the road some tell-all book comes out that contradicts.

He might have left with reasons like the pandemic, spending time with his kids. Maybe handcuffed as a GM, burned out, the tweet, all factored as background reasons, I think it was his decision to bring it up.

    Financially he'll be ok.

This scenario would mean that he is banned from coming back to the NBA per China agreement.

Agree with you except 99% of the time someone is forced from their job at a relatively young age the excuse is almost always that they want to spend more time with their family. Weird, as well, that the NBA made an agreement for China’s return of massive profits at the approximately the same time.

To me, this is the most likely scenario.

I don’t think many teams would want to hire Morey and risk angering China again even if there was no ban if the goal of the NBA is to repair relations in China.

Topfive put it best. He has a reputation to uphold. No one intelligent sticks around for 32 million while ruining their brand when he can likely make more elsewhere.

Poor people think 32M is is a multi generational wealth pool for people like Morey.

So many people surprised that the guy who tweeted “fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong” would walk away from money.

Maybe he cares about other things.

(This does not at all contradict the very sound theory that Fertitta’s meddling or its consequences made the job and the money no longer worth the headaches.)

Morey saw NBA is heading downhill- viewership is way down and advertising won't be the same. And saw that the Rockets may not able to afford him in the future.

The NBA Adam Silver Paid Daryl Morey in Full to leave the NBA quietly. I have no doubt.

Adam Silver really hates Daryl Morey for the China Tweet but also remember the San Antonio Goaltending Fiasco. With Daryl Morey sending a Full Report to the NBA saying the older referees are worse than the younger referees, the Referees got angry as whole and got Revenge turns and gave Zero Calls for Harden and Rockets Players.

Free Flagrants and Nut Punches with no consequences.

The NBA is a Revenge League. Mafia and Gambling Referees run the League.

I really am hoping Daryl Morey writes a tell all book of how Corrupt the NBA is.

Man, I would have weaseled my way out of Houston too! Leave Fertits and his best friend LTS behind so I can go get paid $2 more million per year for owners that will give me some room to operate like they did Hinkie. Daryl is brilliant!

Man, I wish Bezos had bought the Rockets. Now Daryl is going to try and steal Harden from us like he did OKC.

I guess Tilman buys out his contract. They always use this kinds of method to make people follow their way using the money
