I think Morey will be highly resistant to breaking up the Lin/Harden/Parsons/Asik group at this point. The only way I could see him doing that is if it nets us a second superstar to play alongside Harden. Not just an all-star... a superstar. He definitely would not do it for Jeff f***ing Teague.
No. Morey is not an idiot that tried to trade for Jeff Teague. He's not going to break up his excellent core for a soon to be unrestricted free agent that he could get on the free market with all his cap space. Idiot theory. I had followed the Hawks since before Al Horford's arrival and believe me, Teague is nowhere near Jeremy Lin. Bad move. Getting Teague is not something that Morey does. Morey's the one who gives up a "Teague" for something of more value.
accept it and embrace it, harden, parsons, asik and lin are untouchables. don't let your dislike for a player cloud your mind with ridiculous trade scenarios.
I love Teague and think he might be better than Lin long-term, but you're reaching bro. The Morris trade was not just about the rockets dumping salary and creating cap space. Do you know how many 1st round picks changed hands at the deadline? None. That's remarkable considering previous years. The value of draft picks to GMs has increased dramatically with the new CBA. In what world would you get a mid-round pick for Marcus Morris? Morris' value was a super-late 1st rounder at best, which means we actually did even better to get an extremely high 2nd round pick for him. Super-high 2nd rounders are probably better than super-late 1st rounders. There's no guaranteed money and it doesnt count against the cap. In other words, you pick from relatively the same pool of available players but you have more flexibility. The Morris deal was smart and classy (sending him to play with his brother). Please never assert that Morey made a Knicks-type move because he's not even in the same universe as thier crap mgmt.
I do not think the Rockets would want to Lin. If they ever wanted, it will be for a guy like Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard or any other superstar. Nice false news.
I told my mom this the other day, and then she asked me how Lin was making the Rockets money. I had to honestly reply that I had no clue. It's just one of those things we all assume. But just like Yao Ming, there's no tangible avenue by which Les is raking in the dough as a result of one player. We spread the jersey sale revenue out across the league. Toyota Center advertising goes to Toyota Center I believe. TV deals are LOLOL at this point. I think it has and always will be an image thing for Les Alexander. If he is seen as the Asian-friendliest owner of the Asian-friendliest franchise then perhaps later on that will earn him intangible benefits in the business arena. Connections and favorable opinions from others and such. I'm just speculating here.
again, a josh smith trade was impossible without including either asik or lin. i know you're better than that.
Lin isn't going anywhere. Forget that! But probably asik was on the table, not parsons Asik + t.jones or something like that for josh smith was the offer That let us space for sign dwight howard as fa We can repeat the offer next season in a sing and trade. And still get dwight. Will see
Did you see the other offers they were getting for Smith? Lin is at least a guy you can sell you to your fans as far as hype and potential goes. In fact, Morey is THAT kind of GM. He does those kinds of trades where you think, "how in the hell did the other GM agree to this?" Look at the Harden deal. That was robbery. The Harden trade looked worse than some of the Random Trade Thread's suggestions.
With Lin's improvements, he's already almost as productive a starting PG as Teague is right now. I think moving Lin and bringing in Teague is sort of a lateral move that doesn't really make sense on any level. As a backup, sure Id love him, but he's most likely due for a raise this offseason so its really a short term fix with the backup PG situation. Not sure I would have given up anything of value for him in trade.
It would have been all about creating the opportunity to get both Smith & Dwight. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>@<a href="https://twitter.com/eboo1">eboo1</a> so to answer your question: it would be close to impossible to sign both, especially without possessing either player's Bird rights</p>— Jason Friedman (@JasonCFriedman) <a href="https://twitter.com/JasonCFriedman/status/304959575084396544">February 22, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
