    Responding to your comment

" I think Lin was signed for marketing purposes and I felt Morey had no choice to do but that."

5 million for Lin's production is dirt cheap

I don't know how you say he made history without having some stat behind it that's easier to track, but I will say that Morey is an innovator.

Just for discussion sake, I think the Suns built a winner in a very short amount of time. They got Barbosa, Joe Johnson, Marion, Amare and Nash in a short number of years. That being said, it was not one year.

I think the 98-99 Sac Kings should be noted.

Pretty much the entire building block of their transformation from a mediocre team (at best) to perennial contenders was acquired that one off-season.

    Rick Adelman, new head coach.
Traded Mitch Richmond and Otis Thorpe for Chris Webber.
Vlade Divac, a free agent acquisition.
    Jason Williams, rookie
    Peja, rookie
    Jon Berry, free agent

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH BROOOOOOOOOOOOO. U MAD?? :grin::p:cool:

First of all Lin is paid 8.3 million. On the caphold he is said to be paid 5 million, but when it comes to the 3rd season, are you gonna be upfront about it and say he is paid "15 million"?

2nd, Lin may be an excellent player, but he is not on form at the moment.

Hey, all I'm advocating for is Lin to stay out of this series. IF, and thats a BIG IF, we make it to Round 2, then I'll be happy for Lin to come back. But I feel bringing back Lin right now would disrupt our momentum.

Don't forget to give props to Leslie Alexander. A GM is only as good as the owner. Leslie is the one who ponied up the money for Asik who was untested and Harden when 2 other teams passed on him when OKC called them for a trade.

Well you did mention that Lin was only signed for marketing purposes; what SugarLandDream8 did was to simply compare Lin to the closest, most comparable PG we have, and prove that Lin did bring in more value to the Rockets' games.

Don't post if you're going to bait.

Actually you might want to do some research you are clearly clueless. He is paid 5 million this year. The Rockets are lucky enough to claim him at 8.3 million on the cap but the actual money Lin gets this year is 5 million.

Beverley plays much better defense but even if you ignore that, his numbers are better than Lin's.

    Beverley

    12.6 PPG, 6 RPG, 3.4 APG, 1 Turnover, 1.2 Steals, .8 Blocks

    44% FG
    38.1% 3P

    Lin

    13.4 PPG, 3 RPG, 6.1 APG, 2.9 Turnovers, 1.6 Steals, .4 Blocks

    44% FG
    33.9% 3P

Jackson has scored 18 and 20 points the last 2 games.

If Russel Westbrook was healthy he would 20+ against Beverly.

If Lin let the opposing PG score 20 on him no one would say his D is amazing.

Also a PG who starts and plays heavy minutes but avg 3.4 APG

That's clearly been our game plan this series -- load up on Durant.

Durant even commented on how weird it's been because it's like "they don't care about anyone else on the floor."

And that's why I love this site. Looks like Bibby came in just 2 years after that and Bobby Jackson the year before that. They were definitely rebuilt quickly.

Bev gets a lot of credit and he deserves it. For a backup PG who was playing in Moscow he is amazing. His production as a player is solid. He deserves to be in the NBA. He is a borderline starter in this league but to say he is better than Lin is unfounded. Lin started 82 games while Beverly played well against backups. Jackson and Fisher.

Also for a PG it's more important you get asts than rebounding. Do we expect Asik to lead the team in asts? lol

Coach Mchale once rebuked Lin for getting lots of rebounds because the PGs are not supposed to fight for rebounds but stay back for D in case the opposing team gets the board. The guards are the defenders from a open lane.

This is true. Actually, I don't know if Morey can get any credit for Lin because it was Les that demanded he sign Lin, wasn't it?

Even if Morey wanted to get rid of Lin, Les would have to sign off on it.

I see a future of the next two years with Lin and Bev both on the roster... unless you get CP3.

Lakers is in panic mode that Hou is gonna steal Howard from them.

    http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=160881

can put as many pieces around dwight as HOU could? could we come close?

    lets see..?
CAN WE STILL SIGN A BIG FA IN 2014 IF WE TRADE PAU AND GET FUTURE SALARY BACK IN RETURN?????????

imo, thats the only way we can compete with HOU's possible future with dwight.

    for example:

    trade pau for Demar Derozen.
then in 2014 sign big FA point guard.

so heres how LA and HOU would stack up in 2014
    LAL - HOU
    John Wall - Lin
    Derozen - Harden
    4th good player? - Parsons
    Dwight - dwight

    its close.
THE DECISION MAKER? - HOU's ability to trade Asik for a really good PF, puts them far ahead .

    DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

can you guys shed some light please..? and answer the first (underlined) question.

btw; the 30 million argument is BULLISH, HOU has no state tax - HOOPSWORLD has an article saying that instead of 30mil, he'd really only get an extra 8 million from signing with us..

****mods*** this is a very important aspect to the D12 saga ; please dont delete/merge this thread. at least not for a few days. por favor.

    Current State of the Lakers:

    Starters:
Nash - really looking his age, may not contribute much if anything next year
Kobes - probably not ready for start of season
Metta - diminishing returns and inconsistent at best
Pau - Has trade value both as a aged (vet) contributor and exp contract but will not return much impact/value back so because of both those facts, will stay and expire or amnesty are the likely scenarios

    Bench:
    Blake - coming off injury
    Meeks - inconsistent at best
Jamison - expected a contender, got this, nuff said, bye!
    Clark - F/A
Hill - coming off a big injury
    The Scrubs = Scrubs

Jerry Buss gone, Mitch is a F/A, Mike Antoni as coach

If I'm Dwight I would run screaming from this...

Houston is in a MUCH better position to offer both supporting talent and the "happiness" of being out of the spotlight - Houston's fans will cheer for him no matter if they win or lose - they are just happy to be in the playoffs.

He has a point though. His contract isn't cheap compared to his play, it's pretty close to what he is worth.

I am not trying to take anything away from Morey. I love everything he has done. But riley had like 2 players on his roster that summer and became title contenders.

Its average money for a non rookie contract starting PG. jameer nelson, devin harris calibre. Lin is in that tier with the potential to be better with an improved jumpshot, which happens over ones career

Whether anyone wants to say it or not we have been rebuilding more than a year.
