I think his sexuality is irrelevant in terms of him being dumb and scummy. If he is gay, that still doesn't give him carte blanche. Deceiving the public and using it for his own personal gain has nothing to do with his sexual preference, but it sure throws a bright light on his character (or lack thereof).
wikipedia on the documentary, "Vince, talking with Nev, tells a story. He says that when live cod were shipped to Asia from North America, the fish's inactivity in their tanks resulted in mushy flesh, but fishermen found that putting catfish in the tanks with the cod kept them active. Vince feels that people like Angela are "catfish", who keep other people active in life"
Either Tuiasosopo is getting paid some good money to take the blame...or Manti is one dumb human being to fall for such a thing over that long of a time span. I can understand a 4-6 months of getting duped...but I cant understand a 3 year relationship, falling deeply in love, going through a near death car accident, and then battling Leukemia...and still not figuring it out.
Either way, Manti lied throughout. What are just exaggerations or lies we will never know. I will have to do some thinking on it, but I might like him more if the relationship was just trumped up for publicity, because otherwise... what a complete scumbag (referencing never visiting during the 2 months in a coma/hospital, leukemia, or funeral/grave)

Sure there's a difference but as many stated, there appears to be a point in time where he crossed over from victim to accomplice when he started fabricating elaborate stories for public consumption for personal gain - something that the Jack Swarbricks of the universe are in complete denial about.
I don't believe anything. There's absolutely no way Te'o wasn't in on this. Online girlfriend for years without meeting her??
I thought he "knew" her for 3 years but was only "dating" her for a year. Either way he should have figured something was up. I will say though, con artists know how to work people, and if Ronaiah has done the same thing with other people he would have experience. The big thing that makes me doubt it was a hoax is that Ronaiah would have to have a female accomplice for the phone calls, but even that isn't out of the question.
I've seen the same sentiment here and in other forums. But, men can sound like females. Exhibit A: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pRWjLLpwnOM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
