The media sucks in this. He told you the name of his girlfriend and she was allegedly a volleyball player at Stanford. NOBODY in the media thought to check with Stanford for some information or to interview one of her teammates about this relationship that was so awesome?
Could have had this all a lot cheaper! Something for the socially awkward penguins and forever aloners out there: Create a Fake Girlfriend on Facebook for Just $39.99 http://mashable.com/2013/01/16/fake-facebook-girlfriend/
I'm guessing that a few players who were around him enough had suspicions she wasn't real. I.e. SamFisher's "my girlfriend in Canada" scenario.
Wait, when did she become a volleyball player? I thought the Arizona player (Reagan?) mentioned she had the volleyball/model look.
From what I read she was athletic "like a volleyball player", but I don't recall her ever supposedly being on the volleyball team, which would have been a huge red flag that would have stood out as easy to check, and pretty stupid for the person behind the hoax. I don't blame the media really, who expects a Heisman finalist to lie about having a girl friend or much less her death?
Well how do you explain the tweet today from his "GF"? If it was a real, unattractive girl that was tweeting him, she just turned on him...
How to Tell if Your Friend’s Girlfriend Is Not Real: A Lesson from the Manti Te’o Fiasco http://gawker.com/5976782/how-to-te...sson-from-the-manti-teo-fiasco?tag=manti-te.o If your friend has never met his girlfriend of one year... ...That girlfriend is: not real. If your friend's description of his girlfriend never advances beyond a guy's vague idea of what a young human female might be like ("pretty," "likes white roses," "is my girlfriend")... ...That girlfriend is: not real. If your friend's girlfriend "just loves giving bj's; if anything, her love of giving bjs has *increased* since we've been together"... ...That girlfriend is: not real. If your friend's girlfriend has no birthday, place of birth, family, or friends... ...That girlfriend is: not real. If your friend's girlfriend lives through a horrific car crash that leaves her "on the brink of death" and your friend doesn't carve out a day to visit her... ...That girlfriend is: not real. If your friend places a lot of emphasis on the fact that his girlfriend of one year exists, is as real as a wish, is as real as love... ...That girl friend is: not real. If your friend's girlfriend dies, but, prior to her death, gives your friend a pass on attending the funeral on the off chance he's got **** to do that day and really, some white roses and a couple interceptions is more than enough, thanks... ...That girlfriend is: not real. If your friend's girlfriend gave your friend her phone number at a party... ...That girlfriend is: not real or it is 1996. And once more, for clarity: if your friend has never met his girlfriend of one year... ...That girlfriend is: Definitely just not real.
Well if he knows she is a liar who faked her own death now and won't accept her calls anymore, her turning on him after he rejects her isn't that much of a shock. The person wouldn't exactly be shining example of high character in the first place if that was true.
More from Holtzman: Talked to former teammates of Te'o, most thought this wasn't Te'o's GF. Things didn't add up. Te'o loved the attention and was happy to play along with it.
Plausible...but then we are ignoring all the other inconsistencies, like meeting after the Stanford game, timing of her car accident, the fact that he went on record saying that he lost his gf to cancer two days after he found out she was "dead". We have to keep in mind that Manti was a nobody 3 years ago...if some unattractive girl was after him in that fashion, Im sure this kind of thing would be more common. He wasnt a celebrity where she would feel the need to have a fake relationship with him. And why would a girl that lives in California be interested in him? Surely, if he is talking to her then she must have a cell phone that has a Cali area code, no? Why would some random girl in Cali want to start a fake relationship with a random Notre Dame football player 3 years ago. Just doesnt make sense.
Maybe lance doped up because he was gay. Bonds was really pulling his pants down in front of his trainer because he's gay and made up the steroid excuse. Clemens used steroids as an excuse to show off his junk to other males. Pathetic and almost comical to read. I guess every junior high guy that ever lied abput kissing a girl or having a girlfriend is gay too. Hell anyone who talked about having sex with a girl in the locker room is gay too. If teo was complicit most likely he did it for the publicity. Aint that hard to figure out. The penis doesn't need to be the first thing that comes to peoples minds
He got into a 3 year long online relationship for "publicity"? I think you underestimate how often closeted homosexuals will come up with a cover story to hide the fact that they're gay from people. Especially when they have a lot to lose.
That's only assuming he was complicit in this. Which if he was we shouldnt believe a word out of his mouth including the length of the relationship
I'm not going to blame the media too much on this. Can you imagine the negative outcry if word got out that ESPN and SI had been investigating that Manti Te'o didn't actually have a girlfriend that died of cancer? They would be blasted as being incredibly insensitive scandal mongers with possibly cries of racism along with anti-Notre Dame bias. Groups like Deadspin while they have scored a big scoop here didn't have as much to risk regarding reputation in case this story didn't pan out.
Of course, none of those 3 used PEDs for publicity, either. Complete non-sequiturs in this situation. On the flipside, this would hardly be the first time a closeted gay person masqueraded behind a fake heterosexual relationship. You even have a common word for it: she's his Beard. Nothing's concrete in this bizarre story, but it's awfully hard for me personally not to suspect that he is gay, "killed" her off since people would eventually catch on, and let the story balloon since he loved the publicity. But creating and playing up a fake relationship for months/years as a means to set up the death story for publicity? Now that would be the work of someone that is not mentally healthy at all.
