Those girls were sought out by the media for that interview, which is different than seeking the media out. Those girls are also underage. Those girls aren't speaking out on sex education.

    There is a huge difference.

Even still, other jokes about the Obama girls would not bother me.

You have proof the media did not ask Bristol for an interview? Thought not.

I have proof that Bristol sought out media appearances for publicity.

It's strange that you would think such proof didn't exist.

I would have laughed more if Dave said Piper got knocked up in the 7th inning by A-Rod.

    Awe.....too soon? Come on.......that's funny!

Somebody asked why nobody has been talking about Obama's kids and mc mark stated, and I quote....

"That’s because they have not exhibited behavior that warrants an attack."

The obvious inference is that Bristol Palin deserves to be attacked due to her behavior.

    What a crock.

The joke was aimed at the 18 year old who did get knocked up, was paraded around during the campaign with her BF, who *agreed* to marry her, but got dumped by the Palins as soon as the campaign was over.

With this in mind and the moral stance that Palin's party like to take, no, I do not think Letterman went too far. In fact, I think he was too lenient.

    I really, really do.

    When the Palins,

    ....run the SEC,

....help create the motion picture industry,

    ....are Ambassadors to England,

    ....start the Special Olympics,

    .....the Peace Corps,

    .....and the Apollo Space Program,

.....single-handedly politically legitimize the Civil Rights movement almost overnight,

....and amass a $450 million family fortune, then we can talk.

I don't think that this is about an "attack" from David Letterman. In fact, I think if you start saying that Letterman "attacked" Palin or her daughter you're giving him too much credit and too much power.

I think the more important point is just about how low Letterman stooped on this one, and yes there is a floor that you shouldn't hit, even as a comedian. Jokes about underaged girls getting "knocked up" by an overaged guy might be too low.

Once again, Letterman's words can't do harm and people shouldn't victimize Palin or her daughter and act like this is hurtful in some way to them (it's just words), gives way too much power to Letterman. He's just shown a huge lack of class and decency here.

It doesn't help that Letterman is vocally liberal. That makes him a terrific interviewer/foil when Bill O'Reilly comes on, but it also weakens his "just a comedian" defense and allows conservatives to further stigmatize Hollywood and mainstream networks. Would conservative authors and politicians boycott the Letterman show? If Palin somehow wins the GOP Primary in '12, do Letterman producers try to get her on the show? Would Conan's, then or now?

They'll try to get any candidate on the show.

    Business first, politics second.

I wasn't even trying to go liberal/conservative here with Letterman, but obviously he is more of a liberal. Do I think this would have happened had the candidate/her daughter been democrat/liberal? No. Just what I think, honestly. So in that respect, you're right, it takes away from his "just a comedian" thing.

    Where to begin?
You are dead wrong on this.

The joke would not logically make sense, if it pertained to the 14 year old.

To pouhe as well, I would not advise getting into this:

    The Palins have not:

    1) Run an organized crime family running rum (Joseph Kennedy)

    2) Murdered a girl with his drunken driving, failed to report it for 9 hours and lied about it (Ted Kennedy).

    3) Been convicted of murder -- Ethel Kennedy and Robert F Kennedy Jr, aunt and cousin of Michael C Skakel, send handwritten pleas for leniency to presiding Judge John F Kavanewsky following Skakel's conviction for 1975 murder of Martha Moxley.

    3) Themselves abused drugs -- Robert F Kennedy Jr, 43, is arrested in 1983 for heroin possession; Robert F Kennedy jr, 43, is arrested for heroin possession; David Kennedy, brother of Joseph, is found dead in 1984 of a heroin overdose in a Palm Beach hotel at age 29 ... and don't forget Teddy's son -- starting in 1986 Teddy's son Patrick Kennedy being treated for cocaine addiction through his current drug arrest).

    4) Been accused of date rape -- William Kennedy Smith, a nephew of JFK, is charged in 1991 with the "date rape" of a girl he met in a bar. Two other women also claim he raped them. He is acquitted (Kennedys, you know)

    5) Been accused of statutory rape (affair with an underage babysitter -- Michael Kennedy, the son of Bobby Kennedy).

    Just some examples.

I thought the behavior was her becoming a public figure and going on talk shows to discuss sex education, or lack of.
