The joke wasn't funny, but he didn't go to far. I do not understand people getting upset with such a joke.
I've seen and heard worse. Lemme ask you something, if an insane hobo is on the street screaming at you, saying you stole his Lexis, do you fight him? Comedians are people you can't have a real discussion with, they are insane, why fight it? Ultimately, David Letterman is not a person who will apologize or even care, what does making a public scene do? If she made no fuss about this, nothing would have happened and the joke would be forgotten by now, but now, you, I, and a whole bunch of other people are discussing it ad nauseam. Plus, he says he was talking about her 18 year old daughter anyways. Even if he wasn't, she shouldn't care. Everyone linked to her is in the public eye. It's not fair, blah blah blah. Like I said, if she doesn't like it, she shouldn't have ran for Governor or even VP. Case in point: When Barrack was portrayed as a monkey in a cartoon, do you think I was in an uproar? How about him? I voted for the guy, I felt like the joke was ignorant and if left alone would go away.
happens often with the late night comedy writers who don't write their own bits, they're writers are just scribblin and sometimes don't pay attention to details and thus awkward situations like this occur....i think Dave thought it was the 18 yr old and i'm sure he didnt mean the 14....but he didn't write the joke, the writers did and nobody bothered to check if it was the 14 or 18 yr old at the game with Palin
No, it wasn't. That's what Palin claimed but not the real target. It only makes sense that it would be about the daughter that actually got knocked up.
Not really. It is obviously a reference to that but could easily mean Palin was attempting another girl from getting knocked up. Considering the girl that was 14 was the only one at the game.
Going after Obama in a politcal cartoon (allegedly) is different than going after a 14 YO girl. The equivalent would be going after Obama's two girls. This is even worse than when Rush went after Chelsea when she was 13.
what the hell are you people talking about who are saying letterman lets his political views get in the way of his comedy??? it's like you've never seen the show before and you just heard somebody say that, so you think it's cool to repeat. it couldn't be any further from the truth. and it certainly doesn't apply to this particular joke. letterman goes after anybody and everybody, regardless of political affiliation. they are f'ing jokes, people, don't be so sensitive. it comes with the territory of being in the public eye. and, whoever honestly believes this joke was intended to imply that arod raped her 14-year old daughter, you are just plain dumb.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/18/new-york-post-chimp-carto_n_167841.html EVERYONE in a politician's world is fair game. People went after Obama because of his father (the islamic tendancies BS), as you said Clinton's daughter was scrutinized, Cheney's daughter was used as political bait (because she's gay), if you think politics, the media, and comedy should be fair, you're in the wrong country. I've got the easiest solution for anyone who doesn't like it: turn off the tube. Boycott Letterman. I don't turn on conservative talk like Rush because I feel like he's an arrogant jerk. Heck, the guy made fun of kids with autism (both he and savage did, I found a savage link http://astrology.yahoo.com/channel/...-kids-with-autism-need-to-get-over-it-212553/ I can find the rush one if you so please)! Is that better or worse than what Letterman did? I'm not equivicating Pallin's daughter's direct attack to Rush and Savage's indirect one, I'm just saying, if you don't like what you hear, turn it off. Injustice is rampant in our country, the system isn't perfect, but it's the best out there. The problem today is, too many people want blood for what happens when they're wrong and not enough people just let it go. Liberals and conservatives do this.
