IMO, this thread should now be pretty much over. Letterman apologized. This IMO was a decent, appropriate apology, and I, for one, think Palin should acknowledge it accept it and move on.

Dave only took the "classy" route after an advertiser had unplugged. Selective sexism is still sexism.

and btw stop being r****ded on the latter because Palin absolutely DID NOT infer Dave was a pedofile. She simply stated she did not want Willow anywhere near Dave, and if my 14 year old was the inference of such a joke (regardless of whether Dave was completely ignorant of facts) I would feel the same...

IMO, this is an awakening to the fact racist or sexist jokes are not simply "okay"

Disagree. Too far would have been "Weeping Willow" or "Acorn." :D

Dave took the classy route because he's a classy guy. He agonized over this because he is not known for making those type of jokes. He did not want any kind of misunderstandings.

Also, the advertiser that pulled out wasn't even a TV advertiser. They just pulled banners off the CBS website... I doubt even CBS cared much... their quote was: "there was no serious threats of advertisers leaving"

Whereas I am in sympathy with your position, there is no point in belaboring Letterman's mistake once he actually admitted his mistake and apologized.

I fail to see how making racist or sexist jokes makes you "classy".
Also the fact is when advertisers pull ads if often starts with one and grows. People are rightfully upset (particularly women regardless of party affliation i.e. NOW)
Davy boy was backed in a corner and this slimeball coward of an ass had no other choice but to actually make an "apology"...

There is a point to ensure sexist jokes is not "okay" (especially when it is based on ignorance of those affected) just like we should do the same regarding racist jokes.

I haven't really been following this except for youtube clips, not really reading commentary, or even posts in this thread.

By my surface impressions are as follows:

    1) Dumb letterman writer didn't do his homework

    2) Palin acting like a indignant b!tch to milk spotlight

    3) This is what some people call "gotcha" politics

Keep waiting,...I'm mimicking Dave's ignorance of the obvious perception to make a point.

But trust me, it's not directed at you. I would never do that.

10 bucks Palin doesn't move on

[edit] "Letterman certainly has the right to 'joke' about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction. And this is all thanks to our U.S. military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's right to free speech - in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect."

       :

    Very well stated!!!

    Here is the complete:

"Of course it's accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve,"

"Letterman certainly has the right to 'joke' about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction. And this is all thanks to our U.S. military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's right to free speech - in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect."
