I'm not a doctor, but sounds to me like somebody cut off his leg in his sleep, and replaced it with a wooden peg.
I agree with the "pop" sound. I tore mine and it was excruciating. It swoll up in minutes. A meniscus tear is more likely.
sounds like patellar tendinitis... Used to get it after playing basketball for long stretches. Gonna need to ice down after long runs. For now give it a few more days, see if it goes away. If not, get the MRI.
Not an ACL tear. Probably IT band or patellar tendinitis (jumper's knee) Possibly a meniscus, but I recommend seeing a sports medicine doctor. Some are orthopods, some are primary care sports med. At this point it doesn't sound like anything surgical, so I would suggest a PCSM doc first.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I really appreciate it. I haven't really had much swelling but the pain remains horrible only when moving. Keeping my leg straight and not twisting it is okay. I'm following the RICE pattern and will try to see a doctor Monday to work through the next steps.
I guess you could have IT band syndrome, but I dont think that's the main isssue here..It shouldn't interfere with your knee like that. Probably acl or meniscus... You can google the mcmurray test for a meniscus tear and have your gf carefully test it.
I have the same issue. I was told it could be my IT band that's causing the pain. Does the pain shoot up your hip?
No, no pain anywhere but the knee. After 24 hours of RICE, it's unchanged. Looks like the doctor on Monday.
Not sure how a bunch of BBS guys can answer a medical related post. Perhaps a doctor would be a better person to ask.
What could a doctor tell him that the BBS can't? Plus this way he saves money. Win win. Gatsby, it's either ACL, MCL, IT band, wooden peg leg, or aids. You welcome!!
I saw an orthopedic surgeon this morning. She's actually the surgeon for the U.S. Olympic Tennis Team so she has some real credibility in the space. She ran x-rays and believes I tore my meniscus. I just did an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. I'll hear from her tomorrow about the results and (likely) when to schedule the surgery. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and help.
Torn ACL would be almost instant pain and swelling. Maybe a sprained knee or something. Ice that **** and quit being a vagine.
Same thing happened to me about 2 years ago. I could barely walk. I went to the emergency room and they just told me to rest and take tylenol. Assholes. I never quite figured out what it was I had pain that seemed to strectch from my right hip down to my knee, I could hardly bend my leg. With time and rest it eventually got better. Not completely healed because I'll still get pain from time to time not as bad as the first time though.
Wouldn't it be a better idea to just go see a doctor instead of asking some webmd-ers if it's an immediate pain?
