That's strictly a matter of opinion. Personally I HATE being cold, and Dallas gets way too cold for me. If its going to be that friggin' cold, there better be a few feet of snow on the ground to go with it. That, and Dallas gets just as uncomfortably hot in the summer as Houston does, imo.

And I don't know where you've been eating.

You should see that place in the middle of an ice storm. God, what a zoo! Those highways are like pinball and no one up there understands that when it is icing....slow the **** down! I had the misfortune to get caught passing through during one of those things and to be honest with you, it was probably the scariest hour behind the wheel I've ever had. I didn't realize that the Dallas area was a hodge-podge of wet/dry areas, but I guess it figures.

Definitely agree with you....uhh...you must not go out a lot. Houston has a lot of good restaurants.

See. I think the jokers drive too slow in the ice storms. The last one we had, everybody was going so slow, we were almost travelling backwards in time.

I mean, it was probably plenty fast for them, but for those of us with experience driving on the slick roads, it was maddening.

It did literally take me five hours to get four miles down the road that day.

So damn true. I learned to drive when I was living in Denver, so driving in ice or snow is no problem. But here the fools come to a complete stop. Hell, if there's a decent rain the highway slows way down....

Yeah, the unicard system is a pain but it's not really that big of a hassle. Just whip it or your license out and it's all good. Not that much trouble.

I've only been to Houston a couple of times, but both times it was insanly humid. Dallas is humid compared to where I grew up (El Paso), but it's nowhere as bad as Houston...

Hey man, I respect a lot of the things you say ...

    but 'Dallas' ****!n rules.

I even was a fan when J.R.'s b*stard son showed up, and when Sue Ellen went to Hollywood to film a movie on how poorly the Ewing's treated her.

Don't get my started on Ken Kercheval.

    Damn, I miss TNN ...

RMTex, Trust me, there's plenty of alcohol right near you...

Take (if you get a ride :p ) Beltline (east) to the North Dallas Toll Road, head north to Plano, there's a shopping area at the W. Park exit, head west (left) there's a "package" place there with tons of cars always there.

85 feet of all of your vices, and in the state's coldest coolers.

It's the whole areas last stop before kick-off, of any game, up here.

Now, if that don't work... head on up to the Frisco SH 121 exit, head west (still left) and there are several liqour type establishments littered all the way to Grapevine.

I'd say with the fact it's a toll road taking you there, you're 30 mins. tops from half way to buzzed if you guzzle it straight for breakfast.

Or you could start to quit.;)

Well, it's now Thursday AM. Thanks for the tip IROCit, but I have no rental car, so I'm sort of screwed. Walked a mile to BeltLine Tuesday and hit the mall that is at BeltLine and the Toll Road. There was a pretty good British Pub in there. Had a few pints and then went to TGI Friday's to drink dinner (just kidding...I actually ate something). Last night I went in the other direction and found a bar and grill (I think the name was Shuggie's or something like that) and had major beerage while watching the Strangers tank another game. So...I have 36 more hours of this shizzlenit before I get to hop on a plane Friday after my meetings and get back to the wetlands, aka H-town baby! I am looking forward to it. I could never, ever live in this freaking city. I have a funny feeling that I will be partying all weekend in my beloved hometown, especially Saturday night at Reliant as the Horns make the Rice Owls their beeeyatch for the evening (are you listening T_J and BigTexxx? We OWN you!!!! CASE CLOSED!!!).

from a food perspective...seafood is the big difference for me. and it's a really big difference, because that's my favorite food. dallas doesn't begin to compare. even at the chains, like pappadeaux, you can taste the difference. i asked the manager at the arlington pappadeaux about it once and he confirmed same...it's just not as fresh. i guess that should be expected.

having said that...does dallas have diverse pockets of town like houston does?? do they have a vietnamese area of town, for example? i'm thinking that contributes big time to the culinary diversity of the city.

You have that, though sometimes it's not in Dallas proper. For example, there is a large Vietnamese community in Arlington.

Because of the way Dallas/Fort Worth grew (with several very large suburbs and very spread out, even moreso than Houston), it can be very difficult to find some of these areas and it can be very segregated to obscure parts of the Metroplex.

I'm not a seafood fan, but I have noticed there aren't that many seafood options in the Dallas area. I only really ate seafood when I lived in Connecticut, though, so it doesn't affect me.

Strangely, the best sushi I've ever had was in Dallas.

Dallas has some very good restaurants, but even Texas Monthly (which has an office in Houston, and a larger office in Dallas) consistently rates Houston as having better restaurants than Dallas.

Houston has more diversity and more people who are down to earth, but we haven't maintained our streets as well, and Houston can be downright ugly to look at in many parts.

Dallas seems cleaner and is overall more aesthetically pleasing.....but that runs parallel to the rather pretentious attitudes that seem to dominate the populace.

Other than that....and a few other little things (like the weird wet are/dry area), the two cities are much more alike than any of us would care to admit.

Two big, sprawling, hot Texas towns.
