what abuses? you're gonna have to fill me in rhad as I don't listen to Beck or watch his show......but read these comments....

    http://www.fark.com/cgi/comments.pl?IDLink=4608536&startid=54044942

nothing funny about that at all, and convincing me that it was provoked would be difficult.

Not so sure about Beck, but World Net Daily is one of the main sites pushing the Birther rumors. Now, they claim that they themselves don't believe the rumors and that they're only reporting on what people are saying. It's a cheap attempt to absolve themselves of responsibility while continuing to push this conspiracy theory. And they have said "I don't believe them myself, but why doesn't the President respond to these rumors".

I'm assuming that Beck does the same thing although I don't watch his show and can't say for sure. If that's correct, it's easier to make him the target of this piece of satire because he's an individual and not a collection of individuals like WND.

This site is taking the Birther argument and throwing it back in their faces. Birthers wonder why Obama won't address these baseless accusations about his birth and consider his unwillingness to do so evidence that he's hiding something. This website accuses Beck of something even more baseless but uses the same Birther logic in an effort to show how stupid it is. If Beck doesn't publicly refute these rumors, he must be hiding something, right? Maybe he really did rape and murder a girl in 1990.

Nobody really expects Beck to respond to these claims. Why would he? I dunno, maybe for the same reason Obama doesn't respond to the nutjobs who hurl idiotic accusations at him.

It all boils down to just giving Birthers a taste of their own medicine.

I don't think it's funny either. It's parody, and poignant at that.

Is is provoked? Of course it is. If you go around calling people liars, accusing them of plans for euthanasia, questioning their patriotism, making up obnoxiously xenophobic rumors about muslim heritage, making absurd claims of socialism, or even suggesting "reeducation camps" your absolutely goddam right its provoking a reaction.

You may argue that the reaction is not funny. Well neither are the provocations. Thus the word "parody" and "poignant".

It's not my preferred type of comedy, but nothing makes me LOL more than the occasional roast on Comedy Central. That Olsen twins chocolate milk joke is killer.

I don't agree that Beck is incompetent, or an imbecile. I catch his television show for entertainment value, and he is a masterful propagandist, a combination of the paranoid populism of Howard Beale with the "aw shucks" good ole boy next door appeal of Lonesome Rhodes. Throw in a dash of his pathetic body-by-tubbiness and his repeated mention of his former addictions (as a means to claim that the viewer too can become a superstar, if only they believe in the cause), and he's extremely good at what he does.

He has convinced tens of millions of people that labor unions and organizations designed to help house the poor are not working on behalf of the traditionally downtrodden, but are instead the most powerful special interests that America has ever seen.

It is a genius stroke of insane up-is-downism. But he's got tremendous oratorical inflection, an ability to relate to his listener as just one of the guys who only believes in good morals and "common sense." (I don't think he's ever actually read Paine, but just was pissed the book title he was after was already taken...)

He playacts ignorance, trying to draw in like-minded listeners/viewers. And in so doing, he acts as a sort of accidental guide to everything that's wrong with the country. That everything that's wrong with the country tends to align perfectly with the GOP's best interests is a tremendous coincidence. (Lately, he's been talking up the notion that he has always been a nonpartisan critic of government, bringing up his former token opposition to Bush's outrages, rather than GOP shill. He believes, probably correctly, that the nation's memory is extremely short.)

For the first (and so far, I believe, last) time on television, he cried on cue when announcing his 9/12 fiasco, which will be coming up on Saturday as a "spontaneous" march on Washington that he and GOP PACs have coincidentally been planning for months. It's an enormous display of his personal vanity, masquerading as patriotic selflessness.

Notice, it was just after coming back from a video segment, so that he could dab the tearing agent on:
    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rM4xqnukQrM&hl=en&fs=1&start=53"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rM4xqnukQrM&hl=en&fs=1&start=53" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It's all an act, and he's very good at it. This shows him faking tears for a GQ photo:
    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y9j_SWbpOH0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y9j_SWbpOH0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Take that back; just found him going back to the well again. Check out this piece, in which he compares efforts to expand healthcare in our country to Nazi eugenics. Complete with Riefenstahl-like video of Nazis marching!

Again, he comes back from a video segment, and he's already blinking heavily, before he gets to the emotional part that supposedly makes him tear up:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ddZexeSYGoI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ddZexeSYGoI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The guy is a master of improvisational pathos. (A master that will probably end up shooting his career in the foot, but still a master.) As he routinely promotes his stand-up comedy tour, I also believe that had he been born the least bit genuinely funny, he would probably rather have Carrot Top's career than find himself as one of the leading spokesmen for conservatism. But so it goes, and the pay is just as good.

Gottfried is the most underrated comedian of his generation. For some reason, I remember that joke being even dirtier, but apparently that previous clip only cuts off the end of the punchline (NSFW: verbal imagery):

    <object width="480" height="400" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" id="ordie_player_f53cf38182"><param name="movie" value="http://player.ordienetworks.com/flash/fodplayer.swf" /><param name="flashvars" value="key=f53cf38182" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed width="480" height="400" flashvars="key=f53cf38182" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" quality="high" src="http://player.ordienetworks.com/flash/fodplayer.swf" name="ordie_player_f53cf38182" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object><div style="text-align:left;font-size:x-small;margin-top:0;width:480px;"><a href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/f53cf38182/the-olsen-twins-walk-into-a-bar-from-jccizzle79" title="from jccizzle79">The Olsen Twins Walk Into A Bar</a> - watch more <a href="http://www.funnyordie.com/" title="on Funny or Die">funny videos</a></div>

Well, at least we agree on Gottfried. :p

The Beck dude has major skeletons, (just a strong gut feeling here, looking at the masked guile in his bovine face), and to mix metaphors, it's only a matter of time before said skeletons come home to roost.

Glenn Beck moreso than the other shrills in his area is great to listen to...He has an impressive ability to hold attention and deliver his thoughts. It's easy for others who don't agree with Beck to say to listeners you are stupid, or an ***hole, but really these are the same types that think that just because you didn't vote for Obama...

Intolerance for ideology differances...It's okay, that is a right to believe that. Unless you are a moderate, I wouldn't expect anything less.

But yea, B-Bob, something about Beck, I don't trust absolutely...

Appreciate your perspective very much... just want to make clear that, in my case, I have low tolerance for people spreading misinformation and fomenting hate (no matter their party allegiance). I have a demonstrated tolerance for people who have ideological differences, at least in most cases where there is respek.

    Bingo!!!

My old boss was/is a Glenn Beck worshipper. He loved that Beck spoke directly to the people in a language they could understand. Now my boss was a global warming-denier, creationist and routinely bragged about bullying people in "debates" regarding issues such as abortion, evolution and politics. So you can get an idea of what Glenn Beck-lovers are like.

Beck appeals to willfully and aggressively ignorant people who want to see the world in black and white terms. Where O'Reilly turns people off with monstrous ego, Beck comes across as an "aaaw shucks" kind of way. Of course, wrapping himself in Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine quotes makes him look even more patriotic.

I'm shocked that nobody has gone on Beck's show and pointed out that Jefferson or Paine were the anti-Glenn Beck's of their time.

Okay, I'm now down with this movement.

After watching thousands of factless people sporting pro-Glenn-Beck, Obama-as-nazi signs, I'm just totally down with fighting his insipid fire with fire.

I have *no* proof that he didn't rape and murder a girl (or several girls and cattle) in 1990, while wearing a Hitler mustache and high heels.

The absence of proof does not equal the absence of truth.

Show me the Long Form police report that shows he's innocent and my uncertainty will be gone. It's so simple, why doesn't he do it?

Why do I keep running into people like that? Willfully and agressively ignorant people who want to see the world in black and white terms. Our country seems to be filled with them. Where did they all come from? Did they just spring from the ground? The ether? Dropped off by aliens? Created by corporate geniuses out of machines and flesh? The last has an odd appeal to me. Yes, that's probably their origin. Maybe. Maybe no. Maybe we should care. It is a plague bringing this country down to a level I don't want to inhabit.

Deckard, I'm just saying, it seems like you're drinking wine tonight. I mean, I don't have any proof, but then, you haven't exactly told us every single thing you've had to drink tonight either. For all we know, you are 3 bowls to the wind on the hippy lettuce. I mean, I'm just saying. Don't kill the messenger.

Why won't you reveal the list of everything you've ingested for the last 23 hours? What are you hiding. :p
