Jason Collier - drafted by the Rockets in 2000
Eddie Griffin - drafted by the Rockets in 2001

Oh sh*t... we all know who we drafted in 2002...

In all seriousness, I'm deeply sad about this. I loved his game when he was with the Rockets with his ridiculously flat 3 point shot that always seemed to go in. I remember him being the only player on the Rockets who had a 3 point shooting and dunking icon in NBA Live 2003...

    RIP

    wow.....

    I am just shocked....

I read the first few posts thinking it was fake, then Omega comes up to me at work saying it was confirmed, and now I'm floored.

as everybody stated, I was excited as hell getting him on draft night, hoped he would revive his career, and even own his jersey.

    RIP eddie

your potential and talents were known by all of us and just sad we can't witness it, regardless if it was with the Rockets or not.

Oh man, this hurts. I really like Eddie when he was here. I always rooted for him and hoped he would have turned into a special player. I don't know what to say. As I was going through the thread, I was hoping it was just a rumor. But damn, i that was not the case. He may have had off the court problems but I'm sure he was a great person to the people that truly knew him. I still remember that HUGE 3 pointer he hit to help us win during that ridiculous 15-16 game losing streak.

Was that the Mavs game in April 2002? I remember going to that game, then posting about it later that night:

Man, everything seemed so bright for Eddie back then. We were all talking about his unlimited potential.

When we had that young lineup of Yao, Eddie, Posey, Cat, And Steve, I really thought that group would stay together for years to come. :(

This is both shocking and not shocking at the same time. I feel really bad for him and especially his family.

Did this happen on August 18th?

Because I had just seen about a wek on a TV show, where a world-renown astrologer had said that based on an astrological alignment, something very tragic and horrible would happen in Houston, Texas area on August 18th.

He said it would be a controversial and shocking type of news story.

Man if this happened on the 18th this is crazy.

Beyond sad. An extremely talented young man. Too much money, too young, too many problems. A tragedy.

If I'm understanding the stuff posted in the thread, the incident happened on Friday night, the 17th. But, I could be wrong.
