I was hoping Eddie would eventually turn the corner in his life, but unfortunately it was not to be. RIP Eddie.
Crap, I feel so sad for this guy... What a horrible way to go, and what a sad life. This is incredible.
Have you just been ignoring this entire thread? The story was reported initially. But they had to wait for the body to be identified to say that it was Eddie Griffin.
http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5073074.html Eddie Griffin, left, played his rookie and the 2002-2003 seasons with the Rockets. Conduct issues led to his release from the club in December, 2003. DON RYAN: AP Aug. 21, 2007, 7:03PM Former Rockets forward Griffin dies at 25 By LINDSAY WISE Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle The Harris County Medical Examiner's office has identified former Rockets power forward Eddie Griffin as the man who died when the SUV he was driving plowed into a moving train in southeast Houston last week. Officials said Griffin, 25, drove his SUV through a railroad crossing barrier and into a moving train about 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 17. The vehicle burst into flames on impact, damaging Griffin's body so badly that investigators had to use his dental records to verify his identity Tuesday. Griffin, who the Rockets acquired for three first-round draft picks in 2000, faced off-court troubles throughout his NBA career. A power forward, he was released by the Rockets in 2003 after several run-ins with the law.
Very sad. First was jason collier, and now Eddie Griffin. Remember the article about Griffin's older sister holding his hands escort him to school in the tough neighborhood ... Griffin RIP
What a sad story. I think this guy has had some deep personal/mental issues that no one was willing to confront him about. I also agree that this could have been a suicide attempt.
Hit by a train and then burned beyond recognition? Wow, what an awful way to go. I always wished he would have worked out for us. He had so much potential and could have been the scoring threat that we needed at PF.
